Printing Temp

The Print Catalog feature has not been written yet. But you can still print!

Filter, sort, and arrange the columns to get the list presented how you like. If you want to have a unique Song ID for each song, make sure you include the Song ID column. I recommend putting it first. This is especially useful if singers reference their songs by ID and by name. That way, you can be really sure you've got the right one.

Note to older users. The old "unnamed" column never did contain unique numbers—they could change when you deleted songs. Sorry. But you should re-print your song books with the Song ID column, since these IDs are guaranteed to always be unique and never, ever change. Click Here to learn more.

After you’ve arranged your columns, select all (or just select the ones you want), and Edit → Copy. Now go to whatever program you want to use to print (Excel, AppleWorks, iWork, or even TextEdit) and paste in your selection. In a text program, you'll have to set up tab stops to adjust column widths. In a spreadsheet, just resize the columns directly. Then print!

I'm sure you've figured out this is just a stop-gap measure until I can work on the Printing feature. Clearly it is most optimal to be able to print full song books directly from kJams.

Crazy Idea From the Forums

Okay, you've got all your songs happily organized within kJams.

  1. Do a sort by... whatever.. having only the columns you wish to print active.
  2. Select all (command A) and copy (command C like the good man tells ya).
  3. Now, open iWork Numbers and paste.
  4. Get it how you want it, justified line separators (be sure to select portrait), etc.
  5. Change the paper size to something like 4 x 10 panoramic, etc. (May require tweaking to get it to fit.)
  6. Once it looks like many (382 in my case) pages and ready to go, use the export to iPhoto feature.
  7. Open iPhoto. You will see all the individual columns you created as separate image files.
  8. Use iPhoto to export the lot to a folder on the desktop using the Append Sequential Numbering option for naming.
  9. NOW, here's the cool bits. Open the lot with Preview, select all, and rotate them to the right 90 degrees.
  10. Open print cue, select landscape and 2 images per page, scale to fit, and then use the save as .PDF feature to create a nice tight two-column combined .pdf file. Fire up double-sided print and rock on.
