Displaying/Suppressing Meta Data Temp

Right click on any of the column names in the library to see a full list of meta data that's available.

  • Checkmarks indicate data that are currently displayed in your library or playlist.
  • To suppress a type of meta data, find its name on the list and click it to remove the checkmark. That column of information will disappear from the library.
  • To display a type of meta data, find its name on the list and click on it. Notice that it now has a checkmark. The new column will appear to the LEFT of the column that you right-clicked on.

The meta data you display in your main library does not automatically show up in your playlists. That's because each playlist can have its own meta data display. (You'll thank me for this later.)

For you newbies:

  • Checking or unchecking a type of meta data merely changes the library display; it does not change the data itself.
  • When you display a new type of meta data, a column is added to the library, but there may not be any data in that column. For example, try adding a column for Song Writer.
    1. Right click on the column name “Artist.”
    2. Scroll down the list and click on Song Writer.
A column for Song Writer is now to the left of the Artist column, but the column is not automatically populated with Song Writer information. This is because most standard meta data does not include song writer. This information would have to be entered manually.

Keeping It Simple

Although you have lots of flexibility in setting up your meta data, keep in mind that you could be creating a lot of work for yourself if you include types of data that aren't readily available when you purchase karaoke music. I suggest that you build your library first, and then see what type of meta data is commonly provided.

Speeding Up Searches

This feature (displaying/suppressing meta data) can be useful when you're searching for something in your music database and you want to control the parameters. kJams' search function looks only at data that's displayed, which means you can control the extent of the search by displaying and/or suppressing data. Let's say you're looking for songs in a certain key. Displaying the Key column will give kJams something to search, even if you don't normally display this data. Furthermore, you can tell kJams NOT to search other columns simply by suppressing them. For more information on doing target seaches, click Searching Temp.
