Searching Temp

When searching for a song, you can tell kJams to search your entire library or just the current playlist. (Depending on your preferences, kJams can also search online music stores.)

Keep in mind that kJams will search every column in the library or playlist, so you can speed things up by suppressing columns of meta data that don’t need to be searched.

  • To search the current playlist, press Command F (Mac) or Ctrl F (Windows). Or use Edit→ Find in Playlist.
  • To search the entire library, use Shift Command F (Mac) or Shift Ctrl F (Windows). Or use Edit → Find in Library.
  • To search your library plus online music stores:
    1. Go to Edit → Preferences → Stores.
    2. Select Include Music Store Songs in Main Library.
    3. Make sure Enable Check Music Stores is selected. (It usually is, since that’s the default.)
    4. Make sure the music store(s) you want to search has a checkmark next to its name.
    5. Click OK.
    6. Now do a regular search on your library.

Numeric Searches

To search for a number like Song ID, just type the number. If you only type digits into the search field, it will be interpreted as a number and NOT as a string, and it will search numeric fields only. For example, searching for “52” will find Song ID 52, but will NOT find The B-52s. To search for non-numeric numbers, add a space to the end. In the previous example, searching for "52 " (note the space?), will NOT find Song ID 52 but WILL find The B-52s.

Note that the Date column is NOT numeric.

Target Searches

You can limit the search to a specific column by putting the name of the column first, followed by a colon, followed by your search term. For example, if you search for "bb", you'll get all the songs that you marked as in the key of B flat, but you'll also get all Abba songs, right? But if you search for "key:bb", then you will ONLY search the Key column and only get results in the key of B flat. (Note that the Key column needs to be visible in order to do a search for key.)

This type of target search does not combine with numeric searching, since it is already rather targeted to search only on numeric fields.

To search for something that actually has a colon in it, just put in two colons in a row. To search checkbox columns (like No Lyrics, Purchased, etc.), use a 1 to mean "checked" and a 0 to mean "un-checked". For example, to search for all purchased songs, type "purchased:1" in the search box!
