New user- basic questions

Just talk about kJams stuff with each other, describe things you did that worked, talk about your setup, anything that doesn't fit into the other forums!

New user- basic questions

Post by DH44 »

Hi-
I just purchased kJams last night- I have been a MTU Hoster user for PC for years and just migrated to a Macbook Pro and after purchasing Parallels for the Mac and not being able to get the "lyrics lag" out, I found kJams on the web. I downloaded the demo and loaded in a couple of songs to try out and it worked great! So I purchased kJams and loaded up all my kma files without a hitch. Now, a couple of questions-
With Hoster, you searched for a song and then you were able to type in a singer's name. Then you hit "Add" and the song, complete with the singer was added to the upcoming song list. kJams has both songlists and singers but I don't see where I can add a singer's name to a song in the songlist. I don't do professional karaoke, just frequent parties for friends so I don't really have singers that are always in rotation.
Second, in Hoster I was able to add a file to load temporarily to the play list. Usually when doing this it is adding .dat files that I created from a VCD. I have Chinese clients that come to visit once a year and they come to the house and do karaoke. What's the preferred way of loading the .dat files without permanently loading them? I really don't need them in the library but once a year!
Thanks and looking forward to the first party in two weeks!

in kJams, you don't add a singer to a song, you add a song to a singer. so right click the song and go add to singer
alternately, if you plan to add multiple songs to a single singer at once, double click the singer, this "targets" the singer, then any song you double click on will go to that singer

in general you should read up on singers and rotation

with kJams, the point is to have all your songs always available. there is no way to "temporarily" add songs to the library. you can add them to the library, then delete them later if you want, however.

i'm not sure kJams will play your dat files directly, unless you've got some quicktime codec i don't know about (please tell me!), you may need to convert them to mpeg using "VCD and MPEG Tools" before you import them to kJams.
