Simplest way to create new "Video" templates.

I've been curious about this for a while now, but I'd assumed that I was missing something.

I want to create new custom splash screens for the various venues in which I have regular shows, and have those accessible from the "Video" section of the menubar.

I'm sure that there's a way to do this in Producer, but the interface in Producer seems much more geared toward modifying karaoke tracks. I've had some limited success in modifying existing templates (customised Rotation slightly) in a text editor, but I was wondering if there was an easier way to go about this, or at least a step-by-step guide to creating things like this.
