freezing when quitting during "Fill Ring Buffer" task

Feel free to post bug reports here. I need exact, detailed steps showing me how I can re-create the bug on my machine, so give as much info and detail as possible.

freezing when quitting during "Fill Ring Buffer" task

Post by pietro79 »

Hello Dave

This has happened to me several times today, so i thought i should report it

i can't tell when it happens (ie- what I'm doing to make it happen), but once in a while, as I'm cycling through songs, I notice there'll be a song in the task window that says:

Fill Ring buffer: Audio Out
[song name]

like this...

and they just sit there... tasking away, but never resolving anything... it doesn't interfere with an operation except for when I go to close kjams, kjams brings up a box that says "abort song importers and zip tasks" but just sits and thinks... no response...i eventually have to force quit it

So then, in anticipation of this happening again, I've also tried clicking the stop signs, next to the "Fill Ring..."
it gets rid of the stop signs, but otherwise same outcome

this is what the "abort song importers..." looks like (stop signs clicked):

hope it makes sense

One thing, I dunno if it matters, I'm cycling through songs without hitting stop ever, just double clicking a different song... I mention this because I not a get a spooler error message once in a while when I try to cycle through songs too quickly... maybe this is contributing to my problem

so i noticed I can close the frozen "Fill Ring buffer" windows with the STOP shortcut (command + PERIOD)

so then i can close kjams no problem...

but i suppose it'll still be something you'd wanna check out...?

Please help me help you.

I appreciate the screen shots very much, good work!
i appreciate the hints you gave about things you thought could influence the bug, GOOD!

if you can narrow it down to a discrete list of steps, that would be BEST!

dave

i've been trying to recreate it and it's tough

i thought it happened when i double clicked furiously through a bunch of songs (ie- "played" songs one after the other quickly without "stopping" them)

but that didn't seem to do it

then all of a sudden one of the songs did freeze.. or the "Fill Ring Buffer..." task froze

then i started thinking maybe some of my songs are corrupt or something... so i took note of the ones that had frozen in the images posted above in this topic... like "I would die for you"... and tried to make it freeze.. i tred furiously clicking it and clicking other songs in random quick order... nothing...

what more can I do to help you? i guess until i start to notice a pattern there's not much to do?

hm

well perhaps you've already found the pattern!

perhaps the problem is when kJams encounters a corrupted song. try putting them back in and using them in your testing.
