kjams wont install on OS 10.3?
kjams wont install on OS 10.3?
Hi, im trying to install kjams, but i keep getting an error message. It says;
'The current version of the eSellerate Library does not work on MacOS 10.3. Please check the downlaods page for a more recent update that should fix this'.
But it is the latest version i am trying to install?
I am using OS 10.3.9. I have tried it on a Powerbook 867Mhz (with only 512mb ram admitatly), and a Desktop 500Mhz ( with about 800mb ram), but get the same error message.
It says on the homepage that kjams works on OS 10.3.9. Do i need to try an earlier version, and if so what one?
I have tried to install it from the Applications folder, and the Desktop, but no joy.
Many thanks,
Antony

you are correct, there is no joy.
eSellerate fucked up, and so far they have not bothered to fix it. kJams relies on eSellerate, unfortunately, and can't do without it.
So perhaps it's time to upgrade to 10.4 or 10.5?

Oh, didnt expect that!
What is eSellerate?
Is there an older version of kjams that i could use on OS 10.3?
Im not sure how well my computer would run on OS 10.4. Its abit slow as it is on OS 10.3.
I just wanted to try kjams out, before i have to spend money on a new OS, and maybe also a new disc drive.
Thanks,
antony

yes i think a pretty old version will work for you, but then i think it will immediately try to update the eSellerate engine so it may not work. but you can try:
http://karaoke.kjams.com/wiki/History_1.0d50
try one from august or before. remember: older ones have bugs that are fixed by now
eSellerate manages serial numbers, activations and licensing.
i think 10.4 improved performance over 10.3 and 10.5 certainly did
remember: you want 2 GIGs of ram or more if it'll fit.

There's graphics niceties that you can turn off with older machines that simply won't make your experience better, and some things just won't work, especially due to the type of graphics that you might have. But I'm running 10.4 on a turn-of-the-century 500mhz G4 PowerMac with little trouble. NOTE: I don't have kJams on that machine, this is just about the operating system. As long as you're not trying to do multiple things, you should be ok. Open up a lot of programs and start using the page swap instead of actual RAM and you're going to run really really slow. But the operating system itself performs better from 10.3 to 10.4. It's the RAM where you're going to run into issues. Page swaps = really slow performance.
:)
Thanks exactly why I recommend maxing your RAM in older machines.
If you can fit 2, 3 or 4 GIGs in there then do it, ram is cheap (don't by from apple of course) and it is a REALLY big win for performance.

Re: kjams wont install on OS 10.3?
I've got a fix here, so it'll work again on 10.3, you'll see it in the next release.

Re: kjams wont install on OS 10.3?
hi, thanks for all the replies.
Dave, let me know when you get the next version out.. ive found that i can install version d49r55, but as you say, its probably buggy.
i may try a new OS then also in the future, if infact 10.4 runs better than 10.3! i dont think OS 10.5 will run on my G4 500Mhz, though should on my 867Mhz Powerbook, so i may be better getting the OS 10.4 for just now then?
kjams did seem to work on my 500Mhz, though did seem abit slow, probably due to the lack of RAM etc ehh. Im looking forward to trying the lastest version of kjams though,
many thanks,
antony

Re: kjams wont install on OS 10.3?
if you want to be notified of all changes, then you can get an automatic notification.
I can't remember to send personal emails to specific people when i implement a particular feature. I expect i'll have a new release on thursday night, you can just check the version history page at that time to see if this has happened.

Re: kjams wont install on OS 10.3?
nothings simple ehh
i tried to set up an automatic notification, but it wont let me? says error. ive already created a forum account, but still says error, so cant email Dave to join the wiki thing?
i meant could you just let us know on this thread when you get a version that works on OS 10.3.9, that would be great. (but i'll keep an eye on it anyhow).
i just downloaded and tried the very latest version that was put up on 4th jan, that said is meant to fix the OS 10.3.9 install, but still not working. i'll wait till thursday/friday and try again.
many thanks,
antony

Re: kjams wont install on OS 10.3?
*what* says error? and what error *exactly* ? Imagine going to the doctor and saying "something is wrong". Do you think the doctor will say "Well, i know just what to do about THAT!" ? You're not providing enough information to get effective help. I want to help you but there's nothing i can do until you tell me specifically what went wrong and where. There's probably ten places you could be getting an error, please be specific.says error
I can do that only if I remember to. I may not, that's exactly the point of email notifications. I'll *always* remember to update the version history page, and you'll *always* be notified of that (if you sign up for it).could you just let us know on this thread when you get a version that works on OS 10.3.9
I think you misunderstand the format of that page. The most recent thing is at the bottom, chronologically. If it says there's a release on a particular line, that release ONLY includes fixes that are ABOVE that line. Things BELOW that line are NOT in that release, but will come in the NEXT release.the very latest version that was put up on 4th jan, that said is meant to fix the OS 10.3.9

Re: kjams wont install on OS 10.3?
hee hee, this is funny.
well, first i clicked here,
http://karaoke.kjams.com/wiki/Change_Notification
id already done stage 1, so tried to click on stage 2. that page was 'Not Found'
so tried stage 3. Login.
As my username and password already was showing, i tried to login, Again. Thats where i got the,
'Login error:
You are not a member of the required phpBB group.'
its only now that you made me look again i see a small 'email to dave' link i missed before.
so if i click on that i can now send you an email, so i can join this wiki thing, so i can be notified of when a kjams for OS 10.3 is released, as i thought was already available before i first came here lol.
computers ehh.
thanks for helping though..

Re: kjams wont install on OS 10.3?
no you're right, the links in the instructions were NOT working, and i missed a step.
Please go back and see them now, they're all fixed.
BTW: i added you as a wiki member, you can start with step 4.
