Moving Singers List About
Moving Singers List About
I don't know if this is practicable but here goes.
When I double click a singers tonight list and the song they want to do isn't in in their favorite or history list, I then go to the library, find the track double click to put it in the singers tonight list and then often I need to go back to the tonight list and change the order. (assuming songs are already in the list from a previous night)
This going back and too is a pain when a lot of singers file are "Here" and could be made easier by having it so when a tonight list is double clicked, that list is transfered to the top of the section, next to the library. And then when the singer is no longer highlighted the singers file then goes to it's correct position.
(I'm not sure how to describe the next bit so I'll use an example)
If i find a singers file that is "Not Here" and then put a track in it's tonight list from the favorite or history list, the singers file then goes to the correct alphabetical position in the window and I then need to navigate to the file to make any changers in the listing (This is assuming there was already some songs in the tonight list from their last visit, but now the order is wrong) If the window moved with this change there would be no need to navigate to it and thus make the whole operation easier.
Hope this make sense,
Len

Re: Moving Singers List About
Maybe I can clear this up a little.
1. I assume you have the option to have a singer marked as here when you add a song to their tonight playlist. (or know about it)
2. I assume you have the option to have a singer marked as "Target" when you add a song to their tonight playlist, if they were "Not Here" prior to adding the song. (or know about it)
Now, when a singer is moved to "Here", his name appears automatically in alphabetical order with all the other "Here" singers, in bold, at the top of the full list of singers.
What you are suggesting is a singer marked as "Target" would then move to the very top of the list? Sounds good to me. (Perhaps especially if they were auto-marked "Target", instead of from double click - otherwise you might double-click someone and they would just disappear to the top of the list)

Re: Moving Singers List About
I went back to check this in the wiki, and I think I'm a little off on how it works - I think it only auto-marks "Target" if you add a "New Singer", rather than just adding songs to a "Not Here" singer. (And, I'm not finding the option to NOT do this.)Sedge wrote: 2. So, this means that...
is nonsense, as it would only apply in very specific circumstances, and the normal default activity of the option you seek would be exactly what I am warning against - However, I still think this is a good option to have.Sedge wrote:(Perhaps especially if they were auto-marked "Target", instead of from double click - otherwise you might double-click someone and they would just disappear to the top of the list)
I'm not a personal fan of things turning on without me doing so directly - so I have the option to auto mark as here disabled, and would have disabled Target mode on New singers too, as I only very rarely even use target mode (if a singer hands me a whole pile of slips - which they generally don't, and now with my server and library laptop up and running, will be even less the case) But if you do use it, there certainly should be good options available to tune it to match your workflow!

Re: Moving Singers List About
these are good ideas:
1: option to move targeted list to top
2: option to turn OFF "auto-target list of newly created singer"
i will add them to the list, thanks!

Re: Moving Singers List About
I have several singers that go to a few of our shows at different venues. Is it possible to copy them into different venue lists and keep their songs? Right now it seems like I have to recreate each singer and their song lists.

use aliases in the finder.

Re: Moving Singers List About
I think another way of saying this is that adding a song to a tonight list would also navigate you to that list in the main window so that you could rearrange things as necessary.Karanight wrote:If i find a singers file that is "Not Here" and then put a track in it's tonight list from the favorite or history list, the singers file then goes to the correct alphabetical position in the window and I then need to navigate to the file to make any changers in the listing (This is assuming there was already some songs in the tonight list from their last visit, but now the order is wrong) If the window moved with this change there would be no need to navigate to it and thus make the whole operation easier.

Not real up on the hole alias thing. Can you provide more info please or point me to some info that goes over setting it up? THe article above does not indicate how to set up and alias.
Thanks

Re: Moving Singers List About
I think you're missing some Macintosh 101:
To make an alias to a file, select the file and pick File->Make Alias (in the menu bar).
I think that's the only piece you're missing. You know where your venues folder is right?

Re: Moving Singers List About
You got me pegged. Besides kjams, and Itunes, I'm pretty much a mac novice. I know where the venues folder is, but I'm not making the connection on how to get a specific singer in one venue show up in another venue without having to re-enter all their info. Would be a nice feature if i could just pick a singers name from a master singer playlist, and select the venues they could show up in brining their songs along with themdave wrote:I think you're missing some Macintosh 101:

Re: Moving Singers List About
in the finder, go to the venue that has the singer. find the singer's folder. make an alias of it. put that alias into the OTHER venue, where you want that singer to show up. rename the alias if you need to or want to get rid of the word "alias". get it?
I have always planned on letting you do this directly within kJams. But I have MUCH bigger fish to fry right now.

Re: Moving Singers List About
Got it now...so its basically creating a shortcut to the singers folder, then moving that new shortcut into the other venue. Makes perfect sense nowdave wrote:in the finder, go to the venue that has the singer. find the singer's folder. make an alias of it. put that alias into the OTHER venue, where you want that singer to show up. rename the alias if you need to or want to get rid of the word "alias". get it?

Re: Moving Singers List About
Yeah, i know. It's always been the plan. It'll be simple to do, one way or another.

Re: Moving Singers List About
Thanks for adding the feature where the new singers file goes to the top of the section. I've just done a party that lasted 9 hours and all the singers were new so I really put it to the test and it worked a treat and saved me lots of time and was quicker to get the files sorted
Thanks again
