Serial # Problems
Serial # Problems
Just had my logic board replaced in my Macbook and KJams now seems to think that I only have the KJams Pro Trial Version and it won't accept my original serial #.
I sincerely hope that I don't have to repay.

out of touch!
Woah, sorry i've been sortof out of touch these past 2 days!! Wow I've just been wicked bizzy at my real job. Okay i'm back!
Okay! Yes!! No!! You do not have to pay again. But you do have to write to me in regular email, either using the email address you originally bought with, or just send me your purchase order number. I'll reset your activations (you get 2).

I have added a new hard drive and now my old serial number doesn't work.
I have emailed and used the web form, but no reply yet.
Having paid for this software, I demand that my serial number remain functional. If the response to the previous post indicates that I only get two chances to reactivate, then this is unacceptable and I demand a full refund.
There is a word for software that stops working when a new peripheral is added to the computer: garbage.
I generously presume that this is an esellerate issue rather than a feature built in by Dave, who has always seemed reasonable and helpful. No matter; if this problem is not resolved permanently, I shall stop using KJams.

If you are going to use a system that can result in people's serial numbers suddenly not working, then you must be prepared to provide 24x7 technical support.
D'ya think Friday night might be an important time for people to want to use KJams, huh? Do ya?
No answer to my queries; no function of the software I paid for; not very acceptable customer service.
Nice program. I've been very gracious about its few bugs and problems, but good money going down the drain just because I installed a new hard drive is unacceptable.

If you send a message after 7pm on a friday night, i might not get to it for a couple hours. I might not get to it 'till the next day actually. But i'm pretty good about it, as folks will testify to. If you want your money back you just need ask.
I've reset your activations.
peace.

And to be clear i'm always happy to reset your activations. And yes it is an eSellerate issue and certainly not something i'd do on purpose.

Thanks for resetting my activations, but I cannot live with for-pay software that just suddenly packs it in for no good reason and with no warning.
I also cannot live with only 2 activations. I change my hardware configuration often.
I was thinking about upgrading to the Pro, since Kjams is otherwise good software, but now I want my money back for the Lite and I will never buy another product from you again.
Nor will I buy anything backed by esellerate activation. This is planned obsolescence at its worst.
What if something happens to you? The software will die on a hardware configuration change, and I will have nothing for my money.
No, I'm happy to support small software developers, but when you sabotage your user base by disabling software that has been paid for, it is unacceptable.
I strongly suggest that you use esellerate to process your transactions, but write your own code to validate your registrations. Nothing less will retain me as a customer.
If you're too small to have 7x24 tech support, then you are too small to use a system that deactivates your software on a whim.
Thanks!
Heather
[Edit] The serial number STILL doesn't work, anyway, despite your having reset it. It SHOULD work, until the deactivation issue is resolved (and I remain a loyal customer) or until you process a refund.

wow that's a first. you must have had a terrible, TERRIBLE night.
i was able to fix it for you within 2 hours, but if that's not good enough for you then you're totally right, you should not be using kJams.
I've refunded your money.
And i will certainly look into how i can fix the activation scheme cuz you're right, that totally sucks.
again, i'm very VERY sorry you had a bad night. Makes me think you must have lost your job or something to be so angry.

Dave, you offer the Kjams Pro version as a professional tool.
I am a professional KJ. Friday night is when I work. I was evaluating the 'Lite' version with a view to upgrading to the 'Pro' version so I could use it in my work.
If I were angry, which I am not, it would be because I wasted several hours troubleshooting a problem that was built into your software by design, and this at a most awkward time.
KJams has, as a result of tonight's debacle, failed the test of reliability and support that would make it viable as a professional tool.
Good luck with your business. I hope you have learned something tonight. When you realize that deactivating a KJ's software on a Friday night and then being unavailable to reactivate it immediately is a poor business plan, please email me and I'll send you an order for the Pro version.

okaaaaaaay
well for not being angry, you sure *seeeem* angry. If you're like this when you're not angry, ... ohhh, I shudder to think!
Well, like i said, you can always email me and get your activations reset ahead of time so you're PRE-ready.
However, and in case this wasn't clear, i absolutely DO plan to change the activation scheme so that this kind of thing never happens.
So I will take you up on your offer.

Okay, well, perhaps you missed this from the previous post:heather wrote:When you realize that deactivating a KJ's software on a Friday night and then being unavailable to reactivate it immediately is a poor business plan, please email me and I'll send you an order for the Pro version
I'm not sure how to make it more clear that i've "realized" the error of the eSellerate ways.dave wrote:i will certainly look into how i can fix the activation scheme cuz you're right, that totally sucks

Dave,
I apologize; mistook the following (and some of the other statements in your post) for sarcasm:
On the other issue,
The message it gave me, something like "There is something wrong with your serial number," was not helpful. If it had said, at least, that it detected a different hardware configuration, it would have saved me a great deal of time.
I should mention that I really just installed a new hard drive. The old one is still in the system and visible and everything. I made no other changes, and I haven't installed the software on any other machines. The application is still running from its original hard drive. I did the minor point version upgrades of the O/S only.
Thanks.
H.

On the other issue,
I would have done so if I had any inkling that this was going to happen. I had my serial number from the purchase email just in case, but, alas, it was useless.dave wrote: Well, like i said, you can always email me and get your activations reset ahead of time so you're PRE-ready.

I will also follow up with eSellerate to see if they can change the error message to be more informative. I have no control at the time the error comes up, sadly I must rely on them, which I have always disliked.Heather wrote:The message it gave me, something like "There is something wrong with your serial number," was not helpful. If you replaced your startup drive then this is expected behavior. If however, all you did was attach another hard drive as external storage, then that should certainly NOT cause your SN to deactivate. If this is the case please let me know and I will take it up with eSellerate as well. But if you went from 10.4 to 10.5, this also caused many folks to deactivate, which is completely wrong IMHO.Heather wrote:I should mention that I really just installed a new hard drive
I believe you should be able to completely replace your system software, even MAJOR revisions (eg: 10.0 to 11.0) , replace your startup drive, and do all myriad hardware changes without losing activation. The exception being the CPU itself. If your CPU changes, that would be the only case in which you must re-activate. Presuming i will one day write my own activation scheme, that is how i will do it.
Yes I've learned quite a lot from this experience. I am implementing some changes due to it, for that I thank you.

Okay people, anybody who asks will get *several* extra activations, many many more than you will actually ever need. Note: your license agreement still binds you to using only 2 at a time.
