This would make the slow searching alot faster
heres a feature that would be amazing
searching is very slow for me with a library close to 100k songs
In apps like wtkjams I tell people to select artist or title before searching as it cuts the search time in half
if there could be something to click/or leave checked to only search for artits or title it would be great and really speed up the search time instead of having to type artist: or song title:

well, since we're in very late beta, no new features.
and, any time spent doing a feature related to "fast search" will in fact be spent on doing real "fast search". there will be no need for workarounds.

It would be trivial to code this into the main web page. Just add a button or two for artist/song search, and when they are checked, append that text "artist:" etc. to the search term before submitting it to kJams.
Re: This would make the slow searching alot faster
mark: if you want to code that up, please do and send it to me, i'll include it

Okay, well, I was toying with doing this for my own reasons, but this added impetus will probably push me over the edge.

First I have to think of an interface that won't make me squirm!

Okay, I was wrong. Not quite so trivial,
But nevertheless, it's done! Should be in the next release, coming soon.
Plus, I got a bit carried away:
Changes/New Features:
•Filters for search
•Filters also act as search buttons if a search term exists in search field
•Overlay screen on search (probably to be deprecated once fast search is done)
•No click through on overlay (probably to be deprecated once fast search is done)
•User hints during search (probably to be deprecated once fast search is done)
•Fast (instantaneous!) client-side sort
•Reverse sort (click the same sort column, and it reverses the sort order
•Sort blocked on "Add to" columns (because why would you do that?!?)
•Status alert displaying how many tracks found in given playlist

after the next release, you will have to manually update your server resources.

Re: This would make the slow searching alot faster
FTR, faster = a LOT faster.
Using the artist or song name filter buttons reduced search time by over 50%.
Sort times are reduced from about 20-40 seconds down to 0-1 second, even if you set your maximum number of tracks to 1500, and search for things like "Beatles" or "Sinatra"!
For the impatient, I can upload them to the Code Wiki, if there is any desire.

One more feature to the searching is needed for me. How about a button in ADVANCED to turn off "automatic sort" and make it a "manual sort". I'll be making changes and the "automatic sort" kicks in and I need to wait until it's completed before I can continue.
Re: This would make the slow searching alot faster
are you talking about the web client? that's what this topic is about.
what do you mean "automatic sort"?
do you mean that you're in kJams (not in a web browser), and you're sorted by, say, "Artist", then you go an edit the artist name of some song?
well, since you're sorted by artist, kJams has to re-sort, since the name changed
if you don't want that to happen, you should sort by something else.
BTW: "manual sort" is "User Sort Order", which is "#"

Re: This would make the slow searching alot faster
I think he means that if he has a playlist or search active, and edits, that he does not want the playlist or search to update to take account of the change (until he leaves the playlist/sort, or performs it manually).
Nothing for me to do on the web client end, so I'm out!

Re: This would make the slow searching alot faster
right, but that's not how it works. when you make an edit, the view refreshes. the view MUST show the sort or search as it is specified. it's just not possible to show the view without it being sorted correctly.
