Changing to another external hardrive

Post by Just Jim »

Ok here goes,I have all my Karaoke on an external hardrive which is 350 gigs, and I just bought a new 1.5 terabyte seagate (heck of a deal btw) anyway I want to transfer all of my karaoke to the new one and have no problems with Kjams finding it. Just want some information before I do it. Thanks in advance

I have an external hard drive i use for backing up my laptop. I use Western Digital backup anywhere which to my understanding is backing up the whole computer or mirroring my laptop. I am under the impression that if my laptop blows up, i can go to my external and be able to load it onto my new laptop, turn on kjams and be able to sing karaoke. Is this correct or is there more i need to do. I have read the moving page and frankly, it all seems confusing to me so i am hoping i am good to go.- Brendan

the only potential problems are:

1: the drive is not a true clone: i have no idea what your backup software is doing. is it making a bootable backup drive? is the drive name exactly the same?
2: the eSellerate activation engine is not under my control and *may* require a reset activation if you have already used both of your activations

Hmm, okay, i suspect it is mirroring the laptop. I see everything on the external exactly as it shows on the laptop. I dont think the drive name is the same but i can change this right? It seems that if everyhing is on the external, i should be able to retrieve all the Kjams data. this issue aside, you can reset my activation if needed, right? -Brendan

sounds like it's creating a true clone of the startup drive, eg: you can restart from the external and it appears identical as if you had started up from the internal.

the drive name must be the same.

yes it's simple to reset activations, but you need to give me some lead time on that. do you need a reset now?
