Strange bug

Feel free to post bug reports here. I need exact, detailed steps showing me how I can re-create the bug on my machine, so give as much info and detail as possible.

Strange bug

Post by cfspinner »

Dave,

First, KJams Rocks! Cavs unit crapped out on me and I've been finally using Kjams for the last couple of shows...awesome!

Couple of things. Occasionally getting the message:
"Only one song exactly can be selected"

It's occurs randomly. I haven't been able to see a pattern. The only thing that I have seen is that it occurs more frequently after a search is done and a subset of the library is displayed. Annoying since the only way I can get around it is by shutting down and restarting.

The second, and more critical in my opinion, is songs dissapearing. I wound up missing a couple thousand songs.

I reimported them at the show and things were fine until I shut down and restarted....the recently imported songs were gone.

This happens consistantly. Please help!

first, try to find the pattern. there is one. i can not reproduce this bug, and if i can't then i cant fix it. if you can determine the pattern, then i can reproduce it, then i can fix it. it is not random.

second: call me and set up an appointment and i'll look at your machine.

Well, as it turns out, the problem with the songs dissapearing was not entierly accurate. When the CAV songs are imported, the filename seems to be used for the track # (which is great BTW!). For some reason, the songs with track numbers above 70,000 wound up being renumbered. So while looking for the song by number, I couldn't find them. I reimported the songs, thinking that they had gone missing. After the import, the songs were there with the right track number, but the minute I shut down kjams, and restart, the track numbers get reassigned somehow to 4 digit numbers.

It seems to only occur to songs numbered at 70,000 and above. Is there anything that could be causing this? I would really like to keep the original numbers.

Thanks!

I don't have any songs in the 60,000 range. They end at just over 22,000 and pick up again at 70,000. So it could be. Why do you ask?

65,536 is the overflow point of a "short" integer.

i'd like to see your screen. please email me your phone number

this is only related to CAVS file import.. you're fine otherwise. i still haven't heard back from cfspinner on this.

Sorry for not getting back to you sooner on this. Been crazy around here. Anyway. I've renumbered the songs in the 70k range down into the 30k range so this is no longer an issue for me. Its only really a problem since i use the track number to store the cavs song number for my books instead of the native song id that kjams generates automatically. Once I'm completely off my cav units, the books will be redone and use the song id instead. No problem.

umm, but if you do that, then you can't get the meta data for the songs! or have you already got the meta data?!!??

PLEASE PPLEASE PLEASE never "work around" a bug!!! then i can't fix it!! i want to FIX bugs, i NEVER want you to have to work around them! I wanted you to send me some songs that exhibit the problem so i can FIX THE BUG.

The meta data was already there. The track numbers just had to be changed which I already did. I really wouldn't consider this a bug dave. Track numbers are just that, the track number of a song for a particular album. I just happened to notice that during the import of cav files it would store the song number in the track number field and started using it when I really shouldn't have. No track number would ever be that high and you shouldn't waste your valuable time on it.

Again, the ultimate goal is to redo my books with the unique song ID that kjams assigns and use the system as it was intended ;)

The one thing I would ask for is to be able to search the songID and or track number fields, that would be a time saver!

You can search the SongID field, just enter a number in the search box while the SongID field is showing. I don't think it makes sense to search on track number, cuz you'll get thousands of hits for each number in the range 1-15 +/-5.
