If i have my way there will never ever be a windows version of kJams. There is no reason now to ever buy a windows only machine, since all new intel macs can run windows side by side with mac software, with no performance degradation.

It's time to upgrade to mac :)

Does hoster manage rotations? does it deal with bin/cue files? does it let you burn discs? does it let individual singers manage their own song lists? does it export to quicktime? can it convert formats? play kar files? is it simple like iTunes yet powerful enough for a dedicated KJ? does it manage meta data? can you play direct from disc?

note: i don't always get my way.

KARAOKE

Post by chrosme »

Well, what can I say...
Hoster works ok, I can import music from a cd+g, or I can make my own karaoke songs and export them to BIN files ( obviously using another program) and import them to my data base wich is a .KMA file.
I can play directly from a cd+g, or play regular videos, or mp3's.
I can manage favorites songs from every singer.
BUT... hoster can not play a karaoke dvd. if want hoster to play it first i have to import it, or convert the dvd into a .avi or mpg file, then I can play it as a regular video.
HOSTER can not play .kar files cause most of them are midis and I think they'd created the program to use better quality music.
MTU has another software names MICROSTUDIO the one I use to burn my BIN files without a problem.

Remember that I'm just sharing my knowledge, doesnt mean that I am tied to use exclusively this program.
I use it cause I believe is the only profesional software for a karaoke pc (windows OS)
Let me ask you something by the way, how do you create your own karaoke songs? I mean getting the backing track, attach and synchronize the lyrics?
Or is it that Kjams can only play a song already produced?

well i've learned a few things then! :)
so hoster lets you create brand new CDGs? like you can enter text and sync the lyrics to your own music? wow that's great! Strange that it writes bin files, wouldn't you expect it to write CDGs?

is KMA proprietary? if not, is there documentation on it? if so: ick, but that's just my opinion.

so can each singer keep their own list of favorites, and history and a que for tonight? does the rotation manager interleave the singer's "tonight" lists? does it in fact manage rotation for you? or are you just using playlists? can each singer save their pitch / tempo settings independently so the next time they sing that same song it remembers?

yes kJams at this time does not play DVDs but it will soon, i'll be building that feature in, also the ability to rip from DVD. (currently you can use HandBrake to rip the dvd into mpeg then bring that into kJams)

kJams can rip and burn CDG and/or BIN files.

kJams is just a media player and rotation / playlist manager. (and tagger and format converter etc)

kJams Producer is not out yet but it will let you create new CDG files with sync'd lyrics from scratch, or let you edit / tweak existing files.

Dave, I believe you and I will be good friends even if we are milles away.
I would like to clarify that hoster CAN NOT MAKE or create cdg's or bin's, I need to use a different software in order to create them.
BUT I can import them to hoster no matter if they are bins or cdgs, and after I import them into the database (hoster) changes the extension to .KMA.
After you rip a cdg the file size it would be like 45MB aprox. maybe less than 40MB, but after a bin has being ripped the size changes to 4MB, just like an MP3 file size.

One more thing... please apologize my grammar or my writing mistakes, remember Im native Spanish.

Well I hope we can keep on sharing our experiences so we can learn from each other.

something else, I would like to send one of the bin files from a song that I've created from scratch, so you can see the quality of my job.
Is that ok for you?

Hey, regards, take care...

did you set PASV mode?
are you behind a router that doesn't like FTP?
do you have a firewall on?

my FTP works, i'm sure the trouble is something on your end, either your LAN or your ISP.

my mail server can handle large files. is there a reason on your end that you can not mail a large file? or are you actually getting an error from my server about the file being too large? if so i can fix that, tho i'd be surprised.

sorry that's all i've got, no i do not have msn or hotmail.

if you have AIM we can do a chat and xfer that way? my handle is "davecotter"
