Work-around for mpeg-4/mov files

Post by dino »

I see from version notes that it will be awhile before kJams handles import/play of QT files. While most of my files are mp3+g, kJams is the perfect solution. However, an important subset of my collection is Spanish-language karaoke, which is much more reasonably priced in collections of DVD or VCD files. Right now, I'm ripping the discs and converting the video_ts into mpeg-4 for each song and importing them into QMidi (easier to have a play list and to create a song book). I had also tried to demux the files and force the video into .cdg, but I'm not acheiving a lot of success. Anyone know of any good way to do this while QT support is still in process? I have ffmpegx, MTR, and handbrake at my disposal, along with Streamclip.

convert video to CDG

Post by dave »

Keep in mind that the CDG bitstream is about 3.6K per second. Can you compress video down that small? Mostly not, I think. But if you *can* squish it down below 3.6kbps, then you should be able to squeeze it into a CDG. But Nobody I know can do such a thing. Don't worry, soon after I do Burning, i'll get QuickTime going too.

Excellent...yeah, there's no way to do it unless I went back and frame-by-framed it...in which case I might as well just create new CDG video myself. In the end, not worth it. Looking forward to k-rocking the QT.
