Hi, new to Kajams, my name is Debbie and my husband John and I run a karaoke show at a local bar at the beach. Currently we are using a RSQ HD787 Hard Drive Karaoke Player with 500GB disk. I have an iMac and we want to buy maybe a mac mini and use Kjams at our venue. Kjams looks like a dream to what we are using now! We know a little about computers but not enough I'm afraid! I have my WD drive hooked up (w/ESata) to my imac along with the tryout version of KJamsPro which we intend to purchase if we can figure out how to do this without downloading all these songs AGAIN. My mac won't read the songs...Does this mean it won't be compatible with any mac? Do I need a plugin (I am not sure what that is)? I would like to transfer all my 5,000 or so songs onto a mac mini then download the ones people ask for at the venue as we do shows....Does this make any sense to anyone?????? Any help would be appreciated! Our big season is gearing up and would love to have this up and running on a mac soon!
Thanks
Debbie aka Prissy Fish

Just FYI, the RSQ HD787 requires the drive be FAT32, so it should not be a formatting issue.

Re: RSQ HD787 Hard Drive Karaoke Player
yep i don't expect it's a formatting issue.
For AVI, DivX, FLV, MKV, GVI, VP6, and VFW, get Perian
For KMA and WMA playback, get Flip4Mac
For anything else, it should "just work" without any plugin

can you be a bit more explicit about what you mean by that? do you mean when you plug the drive in it doesn't show up? do you mean it shows up but gives errors when you try to open it? do you mean you can open it but the files inside are in some strange format? do you mean they're in a normal looking format (like ".kmz" or ".mcg" or ".zip" or something you recognize) but kJams won't load them? do you mean kJams can load them but when you go to play it crashes? do you mean.... do you see what i mean? i need WAY more information from you to give a diagnosis. My mac won't read the songs
only if the files are one of these formats:Do I need a plugin

I have been trying to figure out what she is asking, but a few things don't make sense.
The RSQ HD787 has a 500GB internal drive, as well as a USB port. It uses the USB port to access an external HDD.
However, she mentions that she is connecting a Western Digital external to her iMac. Unless she has taken out the 500GB drive from the RSQ HD787 and mounted it in the WD enclosure, I suspect things are hooked up wrong. Note: the RSQ HD787 does NOT write out the USB port, so she would have had to have removed the internal drive to get the songs off.

please describe in explicit, excruciating detail exactly what you have done, and what you are trying to do. I am left only making guesses as to what you're doing.

Install the SATA drive from the RSQ HD-787 into an external SATA enclosure, connect that to your computer and import into your library.
Done.
