Shared Network Library

Post by dmaz99 »

We have a license for kJams pro and just bought a second machine we'll be buying another license for. Ideally, we'd like to keep our libraries in sync, and I was curious if it's possible to store the library on a shared network drive (on a third machine) and allow our two laptops to access it simultaneously.

Thanks,
Drew

yes you can do that. but be sure to have at LEAST a gigabit network.

use this procedure: Music Plus All Library Settings, store it on the network volume.

note you can NOT have kJams running on both at the same time, if you do, the universe will implode.

Dave:
I think they might be talking not about their kJams Library folder (song.ktd, etc.) but rather just their actual library of songs. If that is the case, the answer is yes, you can store it on a network drive, and access it simultaneously from both machines. BUT (and it's a big butt and I cannot lie) I suspect you will have to be very careful NOT to edit ANY metadata on either machine, because doing so will cause the other version of kJams to "lose" that file. Now, you could theoretically fix that by copying the kJams Library folder of the songs database file to the other machine, but what happens if songs are edited on both machines? Then both versions are out of sync.
But as long as you remember to leave the Library alone, things will work fine.
