If you want to do something like the background effects in karafun, I designed it to be able to use animated GIFs, so you could find things like fire backgrounds, or waterfalls, or whatever, and select from any number of other animated backdrops, in addition to video. Also don't forget that if you chose a folder with picture files, it will make a slideshow in the background.

Note: As it is now, the slide show transition speed is hardwired. I considered putting up a dialogue that asked for input, but decided that execution speed was more important than this flexibility (you can just edit it to your liking in the code.) But if enough people ask for it, I could post an update that made slide transition speed user selectable.

I am trying to download quicktime player 7 but i keep getting a message saying quicktime 7 cannot be installed because i have quicktime X already present. please use Software update to install the appropriate version of Quicktime for your mac.
Can i only have one or the other? -Thanks

There is a bug in QT that I am still trying to get around where it ignores the display ID setting it you have never used that display full screnn with QT7 before. To get around this for now, just open QT7 select preferences>full screen, and click on the display you have connected. After you do this once, QT7 should be able to see it in the future. I hope to have a workaround in the code soon.

That was easy, I now have Quicktime 7 installed but when i try to run the video, i press play in the automator and get a message saying "Syntax error Expected "end" but found "on"

I'm sure its user error since i dont know much about automator. I thought i followed the instructions.

Correction : When i press play on the automator, i get the message "This service will not receive input when run inside automator. To tesst this service within automator, add the "Get specified text" action to the beginning of your workflow. Remove or disable the actions before runnning the workflow outside of automator.

I press "ok" and locate a video file and select then get the message below- Thanks

I got it working, think i had it saved as a workflow instead of a service?
I have to play with it when it is hooked up to the tv. Will it automatically open up the video in the secind display window?

Actually considering how short the code seems, it took me over two weeks, mostly barking up a number of wrong trees, and getting stymied by a number of things that just don't work the way they are supposed to, thanks to Apple not being on the ball. I ended up hacking up workarounds to most of the issues, so that they don't interfere with the display. There is still one issue in the script that QT7 ignores the data I am pushing at it, which is why you need to get it working on your external once, which forces QT7 to notice the change to its preference file.
I am working on a fix for that to force QT7 to do what it is supposed to do, so pay attention to this thread, since I'll post news of an update here.

I tried a search for video loops but they want you to register to "opt out" for free downloads. Suggestions?

I purposely made it so that it can play animated GIFs, so you can just do a search for those. It depends on what type of thing you want, though.
