Sharing external hard drive for Mac and Windows kJams
Sharing external hard drive for Mac and Windows kJams
I recently bought an external drive (formatted FAT32) and performed the "moving" instructions on the wiki for Music Plus all Library Settings. kJams is functioning as expected on the Mac using the external drive but I tried pointing the music folder on the latest Windows version of kJams to the external drive as per the Mac "moving" instructions and the Library is empty on Windows kJams. When I use Add to Library on one folder from my external drive it imports and plays just fine in the Windows version. So I am assuming that while you can now change the kJams music folder location in the Windows version it is not quite ready to support this...or am I doing something wrong?
Re: Sharing external hard drive for Mac and Windows kJams
the problem is the "plus all library settings". currently there is no "search paths" pref panel. on the mac, drives have names, but on windows they are identified by a drive letter. so you currently can't use your "kJams Library" from the mac on windows, cuz the drive is not identified the same way, so the index is all wrong. once i (finally) get the "search paths" pref panel, you'll be able to map a drive name to a letter, then be good to go. but that's not done.
you CAN use just the music folder, and keep a separate "kJams Library" each for mac and windows.

Dave,
This may not be worth too much thought since you'll probably solve it when you get the Windows search mapping completed but maybe you can make a suggestion for the interim. I recently bought a few songs through the music store (insert cha-ching sound) while on my Mac and want to get those songs over to my Windows library. Should I just copy over or re-download the music onto my Windows machine and perform Add to Library or can I somehow copy the music folder over again from the Mac and reimport into the Windows Library? Thanks

you can copy the files into a NEW folder, not the "kJams Music" folder, then add said folder to the library. note: it must be a permanent folder that you will never touch (ie: not the desktop)
