Hi All,
I am trying to use Yamaha AudioGram 3 as microphone input device, my mac knows about it but when I set it as the audio input and default audio output I don't hear voice coming through the computer. Mine is just a home setup and I want everything to go through the mac.
Has anyone out there made this work?
Thanks in advance
Gordon

Re: Yamaha AudioGram 3
do you have speakers attached to it? then yes, set it as default audio OUT in the system prefs
but do NOT set it as the default audio INPUT in the system prefs.
instead, run GarageBand or AudioHijack (or as a last resort, kJams) and set the mic input to your AudioGram from there.
in GarageBand, be sure to turn the monitor ON
in AudioHijack, don't forget to click Hijack
but do NOT set it as the default audio INPUT in the system prefs.

Hi Dave,
Thanks for the reply...
Are you saying I need to attach speakers to it? I was hoping that by setting it as audio in and using the default audio out it would work.
Can you please clarify exactly what I need to do please?
I love kJams and intend to make good use of it - I have been using a sunfly karaoke player for quite some time now I have ripped all my cd g stuff and have over 700 tracks in kJams lite now, and I am looking forward to updating to pro in the near future.
Thanks, Gordon

Re: Yamaha AudioGram 3
heh, well yeah, if you set it as audio out, you're sending your audio out to it. if you don't attach speakers to it, you won't hear the audio you're sending to it.
Re: Yamaha AudioGram 3
Lol it must be my australian accent or I am asking the question the wrong way.
Ok so this is what I have done so far.
I have plugged the audiogram into my MacBook using the USB cable
I have plugged my mic into channel one of the audiogram and set the mic switch on it to the mic position
I have opened kjams and set audio in to audio USB (audiogram), and audio out to internal audio out
I have not connected speakers to the audiogram, but I have to my MacBook
If I use the mic I see a signal register on the green LEDs on the audiogram, but I don't hear the vocals come through the speakers of connected to the MacBook
First question - would you expect the set up described above to work? If not, how would you suggest I set it up?
Second question - in your post you mentioned garage band - I am new to Mac land how would I set that up to work with jams? I did see your article but it talked about recording not a live performance.
I love your work and your reply above.
Cheers
Gordon

Re: Yamaha AudioGram 3
in your system prefs->audio, what is your output device? is it set to your mac's headphone jack / internal speakers (it changes depending on whether you have something plugged in).
if you have it set to AudioGram, that's the problem.

Re: Yamaha AudioGram 3
That did the trick it is now working for me thanks Dave...
To question 2....
How do you setup garageband as the vocals output interface, I read your article but it seemed to be talking about recording voice rather then live vocals?
Thanks, Gordon

Re: Yamaha AudioGram 3
it's the same
Re: Yamaha AudioGram 3
Got it working using SoundFlower and Gargeband I love the way you can use the smarts in Garageband.
As an aside I have started ripping my dvd's it is slow and tedious but HandBrake does the job. I will be trying all of this out tomorrow at our Australia Day BBQ. I will let you know how it went.
Thanks, Gordon
