Keeping Folders Organized

Post by Dr.Rhythm »

Can kJams keep the music folders organized like iTunes can? For example, let's say I have some tracks by "N Sync" and some by "N'Sync". If I rename the tracks so they are all by the artist "N'Sync" can kJams move all the files in the former "N Sync" folder into the "N'Sync" folder.

I know that's a lot of N'Sync to digest.

That's good news. I'll just leave my files and folders alone for now. I'll try to make sure I rip the songs with the correct naming conventions so everything will end up in the right place.

A follow up. If I DO change the artist name in kJams, I noticed the file gets renamed. What's up with this behavior?

After ripping a track the title of the file was...

02 Bye Bye Bye.zip

After I changed the artist name the file was renamed...

BS6117-02 - N'Sync - Bye Bye Bye.zip

Why did that happen?

preferences->tags->writing->conform song names:

it's best to leave it at the default.
before the advent of meta data (10.3) i tried to glean the meta data out of the name of the file. this seemed to be a standard format for zipped song names.

you're not supposed to worry about the title of the file. let kJams do it's job, in the future it will be much better.

What is the default Dave? I didn't change anything. It's set to "L-T - R - S" right now. I guess that's Album-Track# - Artist - Title. I really don't need my file names to be that complex or that long because like you said, I'll just let kJams manage them.

When I rip the tracks it looks like the setting must be "T S".

the default is: what it goes to if you don't change anything.

just don't look at it, let kJams do whatever it does.

and never, ever change a song's name or folder in the finder, after kJams has added it to the library. do all your data manipulation whithin kJams.
