Windows version - Choppy Audio

Post by gsteffens »

First let me preface this post with the fact that I do not have the minimum 2GB of RAM (1.5GB instead) so that may be the reason for this issue, however, in looking at the Windows Resource Manager it seems to only be using half of the physical RAM. Also, I only have about 60 songs added to the Library if that helps matters for memory usage. Anyway, I figured I'd post this audio issue because I could have swore that the audio was fine in the first Windows version I downloaded.

With all of that said, I noticed that there is a Saving Database activity that runs every 5 seconds which makes the jitter much worse but it continues to make clicking sounds even after this activity stops. As a test I ran the MP3 file of one of the songs in Windows Media Player and that sounds just fine. I've tried to modify the sound quality configurations (radio to DVD) in the Audio control panel but nothing seems to help the audio when using kjams. So, am I wasting time playing with this without having the minimum RAM installed or is this a potential issue in kjams?

Much, much better now but I do still get a slight skip in audio when Saving Database appears. This only happens after about 30 seconds into the song and not initially so I'm wondering if it is a memory cache issue due to limited physical RAM perhaps?

that kind of thing is always a CPU starvation issue. i'll see what i can do about raising the priority of the audio thread

meanwhile, please try tweaking your audio prefs: edit your prefs file located here:
http://karaoke.kjams.com/wiki/Secret_Prefs

look for this:
<key>Pre-Fetched Audio Blocks (must be > 2)</key>
<integer>5</integer>
change that "5" to like 8 or something. if that's teh failz, set it back to 5, then look for this:
<key>Audio Engine sleep time (should be zero)</key>
<integer>0</integer>
set that zero to like 5 or something. let me know

Setting Pre-fetched Audio Blocks to 8 did the trick and the audio was solid all the way through the song. There was a skip at the beginning of the second song but I was also launching another app during that time. BTW, I am running on an AMD Sempron 3300 2Ghz.
