How do you validate Song and Artist Meta Data from Lookups

Post by gsteffens »

I have been ripping my CDG\CAVs collection (mostly Chartbuster) for the past few weeks now and have been using the KJPro lookup for all of the meta data. I have found that even though I select the right disc album there might be an individual song/artist on that disc that is completely wrong and I've had to manually update it. I'm curious to see what others are doing to get cleaner meta data during the lookup or what you do to validate that everything matches pre/post rip?

Here is how I've started validating the song/titles match (maybe there is a feature request hidden somewhere in all of this insanity):

Turn on the option to Skip Silence (this is the quickest way to show the Song/Artist info that displays in the video screen at the beginning)
Turn on the option to Pause between Tracks (this prevents the song from playing and freezes it at the Song/Artist screen so if it is wrong you can update with Get Info while it's paused. If the song/artist info isn't showing just hit the spacebar and let the song play until it does)
In the Library view do a search to limit the selection or just start at the top and work your way to the bottom
Hit play and verify that the song title playing matches the Message Text at the bottom of the video window
Hit the Right Cursor to go to the next song and continue this until you are flat out tired and quit or finish your entire library

As time consuming as it is I think it is worth the effort before you print a song book and have people requesting songs that you don't really have. If anyone has a better way please share!

be very sure you're sorted by "#" before you use KJPro, otherwise it will put the right meta data on the wrong tracks.

Yes, I never change that sorting by Track # when ripping but I just attempted to change a few song names/artists after a KJPro lookup but before I rip and got an Assert Fail error when attempting the rip. I think I read somewhere that I need to clear the cache before ripping if I change any meta data, is that correct?
