how to retrieve serial number if you don't have orig e-mail

Dave,
my uncle bought a new computer and his daughter didn't use the apple assistant to migrate the old programs. She was worried about viruses and such.She made him reload everything from scratch. Now kjams has reverted to the tryout mode. Because, she also deleted all of his saved e-mail - how do you retrieve the serial number from the old computer?
