Karaoke Locker

Post by djdave »

1.Both times I bought songs from Karaoke Locker, I got file corrupted messages. Tricerisoft is no problem. Is Karaoke Locker OK?
2. My 2nd Karaoke Locker purchase showed up on my desktop. I went to kjams FAQ and saw that I need to save it somewhere, but not my kjams music files. How do I add it to my kjams library?
Thanks again

I guess i don't know the difference between kjams music files, and kjams library. I just dragged the song from my desktop to the kjams icon and it added it to my library.

The song is in my library and seems to play fine. What data could be missing?
I'm not very computer literate, so " creating new files, and pointing to..." is Greek to me.

did you read the directions?

to wit:
DO NOT DO THIS: "Download a karaoke song to your desktop. Add it to your library. Delete the song.
please READ the directions. you don't *store* stuff on your desktop, it's for temporary work only.

I didn't store it on my desktop. That's where it showed up when it was resent from karaoke locker.
I didn't know what to do with it.

but you SAID, and i quote:
I just dragged the song from my desktop to the kjams icon
so: WAS it on the desktop when you added it to the kJams Library?

Sorry for so long between responses, I'm unclogging a drain and running to the hardware store.
Is there data lost on the song in question? It seems to be fine.

your question indicates you have not read the instructions. please read the instructions, then get back to me.

salient points:
* kjams makes a reference to a file *right where it is* when you add to library. if you added it from the desktop, that's where kJams will look for it in the future. if you've moved it since then, you're screwed
* never ever rename or move a file after you have added it to kJams. eg: if you moved it kJams may not know where to find it. if it DOES find it, you're just lucky.
* never trash a file after you add it to kJams. since kJams doesn't copy, if you do this you've trashed the original. It may still *seem* to work because kJams also uses a caching scheme for quick access, giving you a false sense of security. Once your cache is blown, you'll never see the file again.
* you are expected to store the file where it will live forever, THEN add it to kJams. if you do anything else, you're asking for trouble.

So when the cache is blown, if the song disappears, I can just buy a new version and add it to kjams correctly.
Is there a way to keep track of the status of the cache?

no, you're still not understanding.

you should never need to re-purchase a song, no matter what. you've bought it, it's yours.
you need to put the song in your library correctly in the first place. you are not supposed to know of or think about the cache. and no you can't manage the cache except to empty it, and you should never even need to do that. the cache is just for convenience, it should be able to disappear at any time without affecting anything. unless of course you've done something wrong, like deleted the original song files. which it sounds like you may have done. HAVE you done that? or did you move them somewhere safe?
you have your email receipt yes?
then download your song, store it in it's permanent location, then add it to the library.
