Using an external drive
Using an external drive
I usually go to a friends house and hook up my laptop to his receiver and tv so we can sing. If my friend has an external drive with his own library, can i hook it up via usb or firewire and see/run his music through my system, using Kjams of course! - Brendan
Re: Using an external drive
you will want to build a library from scratch using his hard drive, i recommend "music plus all library settings" setup.

skip step 2, and instead do this: "put a tilde in front of your own "kjams library" folder (so it says "~kJams Library") and then make a folder called "kJams" somewhere on the external volume"
after you run, then do "add to library" and add the music from the external drive. now you're set!
when you get back home, remove the alias, and remove the "~" from the start of your original kJams Library folder

Okay, i will try it next time. Will i be able to access both library's during the evening?
Re: Using an external drive
you can access one library at a time, by quitting then switching which one has the tilde in front of it. but your home library will be useless unless you have the songs with you too.
Re: Using an external drive
I use the "tilde" ~ function all the time and it works GREAT! I have multiple libraries set up. Because I do regular "bar" gigs and I also do karaoke with kids at other times, I have a separate library with "clean" songs in it(and corresponding books). We certainly don't want the kids singing "Blow Me - by Red Peters". I'm thinking the parents would not think it appropriate.
