Deleted Singer

Post by jdrmm8400 »

Is there any way to retrieve a deleted singer and their files? I don't know how it happened but when I opened KJams tonight for my home show, my wife and all of her songs are deleted. No other singers were affected. Any help would be appreciated.

can you find it in the venue folder in the finder? (usually called "singers" unless you've changed it)

I had her in the "Home" venue along with all the others that I have over for shows at my home. Her info was the only one affected.

my question is: in the Finder, not in kJams, is that singer still there?

She was not in the finder either. I just re-created her and started over-but lost over 100 songs and their settings. :(

Painful lessen but you'll find it useful to keep a backup of your venues with the singers folders in it. If you then loose a singer go to your backup, copy the lost singer and then paste it where it should be in my case music/kJams/kJams Library/Venues/(Choose the venue)/Singers. When I do this I go to File/Duplicate and that gives the word Copy after the singers name, then when I drag that file across the my music folder I then leave the word copy. It's never been deleted again.

Incidentally if you use time machine you'll find a backup there as well. Get a copy of your singers folders and put it on your HD then go back to where you know you had the singer and their songs. When you then open kJams the file will be there but if you've done any other work I don't think up can go forward to retrieve it so get a copy of all you recent stuff before you go back.

I was going to say, always have a backup of your "kJams" folder. use Time Machine, it is SO worth the price of admission.

I'm having issues with kJams killing playlist after playlist of random selections of singers at every time I open it. Can I just go to Time Machine at the beginning of November before this became and issue and fix it by copying the entire kJams folder from ~/Library/kJams or do I need to restore other things as well?

And, what do I have to do to add back all the songs to the library that I've bought in between then and now?

what do you mean "killing playlists"?

the folder you want to restore is ~/Music/kJams, not the one in ~/Library

re: backup: time machine will take care of that.

else: sort by date added, then select your new songs and make a new playlist with just them, then select that PL, then file->export->all files, and select your backup location

As with all stuff thats important to any computer user, It's worth keeping a backup on a separate HD of any track you buy on line, regardless of where you buy them.

By "killing playlists" I mean: every time I open kJams, it tells me that it's lost/can't find/deleted (I don't remember which, I've been afraid to open the program unnecessarily) Singer A's favorites, Singer A's History, Singer B's Tonight List, Singer C's Favorites, Singer D's History, Singer E's History and Tonight List, etc. Sometimes it doesn't happen at all, and then the very next time it will lose/can't find/delete 1 or 3 or a dozen of them. And then the next time kJams opens it loses some more.

I just want to go back to Nov. 1 with everything (music, venues, singers, application, preferences, etc.), update to the current version, then find all the songs I've bought since Nov. 1 in time machine and re-add them to the library. I don't really care about losing the November info anymore, but I would like to prevent losing all my singer data from before then and going forward.
