Feel free to post bug reports here. I need exact, detailed steps showing me how I can re-create the bug on my machine, so give as much info and detail as possible.

Crash on Karoke Locker

Post by dunkster »

Bought 30 or so songs yesterday on Karaoke Locker with no issues.

But today, after buying 2 Geroge Thorogood songs, the second song purchase only half completed and kJams crashed. Now it crashes every time I re-launch it and it is trying to finish the second download of the song (I Drink Alone).

I can't use kJams at all and need some help to get past this. (Note: running on Snow Leopard before this with no problems)

Tried shutdown and restart, same problem. Tried turning Airport off, same problem. Endless loop with kJams crashing every time.

Attached a screenshot showing Karaoke Locker continually trying to complete the second download of the song. Right after this, the kJams Pro quit unexpectedly window comes up (ignore, Report, Relaunch).

I have a backup MB and can move some music over for a karaoke party tonight but this is my main MBPro and if there are any steps I can take to kill the endless loop and get kJams back I would be grateful.

Thanks for any help.

Re: Crash on Karoke Locker - workaround found

Post by dunkster »

Dave,

After trying numerous things to keep kJams from continually crashing on launch, I took a look at the songs.ktd file.

At the end of the file were the two George Thorogood songs I bought today on Karaoke Locker, but the last one "I Drink Alone" was the culprit. The entry seemed to be incomplete. So I deleted just that portion as it seems kJams was trying to grab the rest of that song on launch every time and crashing.

Now everything seems fine except for not being able to sing "I Drink Alone" tonight and I can live with that!

Before I found this workaround, I was able to disable online music stores and kJams ran long enough to get a crash report (which I sent you).

My libarary is intact and I think I am ok for now.

Any advice on the crash or how to deal with this is appreciated (when you have time).

Regards,
Dunkster

it's dangerous to try to edit the ktd file, it is a binary file not a text file.
i have yet to reproduce this crashing bug, but when i do i will fix it right then and there.

Thanks, Dave.

So, the symptom was the MP4 version of 'I Drink Alone' appeared in my Library but the crash happened before the CDG version download completed. This matches the partial data I saw at the end of the ktd file. I saw it was a binary file-- I was just fishing for a solution and all seems ok now. I knew I was probably playing with fire there but backed up the file first

Also, just for grins, I tried to buy 'I Drink Alone' again and a kJams popup came up telling me I had already purchased this song and to contact Tricerasoft (but it was from Karoke Locker). No impact to me at all but thought I would mention it in case you want to fix that message.

And, tonight I just tried to buy 'I Drink Alone' again anyway (throwing away $1.49 in pursuit of kJams bliss :-) and the crash is now back.

It seems, at least on my MBPro recently upgraded to SL, the crash is related to this song. Were you able to try to buy 'I Drink Alone' successfully? I just saw the same exact result as my original purchase. I also just purchased a few other songs and they downloaded fine.

Hope this helps nail this down.
