Edit: Click here for info on kJams for Windows
DOES KJAMS WORK WITH PC LAPTOPS (OTHER THAN MAC)? I'VE PURCHASED A WESTERN DIGITAL EXTERNAL DRIVE(1 TB). ANOTHER KJ IS GOING TO LOAD THE DRIVE WITH APPROX 90,000 SONGS AND VIDEOS. THE SONGS ARE MP3 FORMAT. I DIDN'T BUY AN EXTERNAL DRIVE(DVD) SO I COULD RIP/BURN THE SONGS MYSELF. SINCE THIS HAS ALREADY BEEN DONE....WILL KJAM WORK ON A HP,DELL ETC...LAPTOP? THE PERSON I'M GOING TO BUY THE SONGS FROM WILL ALSO BE GIVING ME "SAX AND DOTTY" PROGRAM AND A DJ PROGRAM. I'VE BEEN TOLD I HAVE TO HAVE WINDOWS XP FOR THIS TO WORK. IT'S HARD TO FIND A LAPTOP WITH WINDOWS XP ON IT...SINCE VISTA CAME OUT. I DON'T BELIEVE VISTA WORKS. WINDOWS 7 IS COMING OUT AROUND JUNE,2009. THIS IS SUPPOSE TO FIX THE PROBLEM WITH VISTA. THE REASON I'M ASKING ABOUT KJAM IS I'M SEEKING ALTERNATIVE OPTIONS IN CASE I DECIDE TO DO THIS BEFORE JUNE. ALSO WINDOWS 7 MIGHT NOT WORK WITH "SAX AND DOTTY"....ANY HELP APPRECIATED. THANKS MIKE

Re: kjam and other laptops
Wow - where to start? First, what you are announcing is piracy, and you're not going to get much help here. Second, although I've heard *rumours* that kJams will one day be cross-platform, you probably have a long time to wait. I have no idea what a sax and dotty program is, or what you would want with one. Whatever function it performs, must already be part of the kJams suite.
From the sounds of it, your KJ buddy is already giving you second-class music, a second-class laptop with some second class programs and a second class operating system. So, why not enjoy your second-class setup and have a wonderful second-class show? When you're ready to start buying music instead of stealing it, ready to step up your platform a bit to a modern-era laptop and operating system, and ready to really put on a cutting edge karaoke performance, perhaps kJams will be there for you. Remember, kJams will cost you money to use professionally -- there aren't any warez versions of it or serial generators that will allow you to use Dave's software for free.
What functionality did you hope to gain from it? Just curious
(and apologies for the flame post - I get a bit touchy about piracy and such, NTM micropuffy products.)

Re: kjam and other laptops
<strike>kJams only runs on Mac.</strike> Update: FIXED! However, "make kJams for Windows" is in fact my top feature request, by far. All i can say at this point is "i'm working on it", but don't hold your breath, my Mac customers are my priority. Meanwhile, go ahead and get a Mac, it runs windows if you *really* want, but it's also a mac. No PC can ever do that.

ps: there's a key to the left of the "a" key on your keyboard, it's called "caps lock". press it. otherwise you'll always be shouting.

Dave, ever taken a look at Cocotron?dave wrote:kJams only runs on Mac. However, "make it work on windows" is in fact my top feature request, by far.
Re: kjam and other laptops
yes, but kJams is not written in Cocoa, it's written in Carbon.
i'm 70% done porting it to YAAF, for histerical reasons, it was the only thing that made sense when i started. Ironically, half way thru my Port, Qt decided to become LGPL. This makes me rather pissy, but I'm going to finish what I'm doing with YAAF. If i ever get to the point of doing a rewrite, i'll definitely be using Qt.
