I know this forum is for kjams but I have a problem with the video out on my new MacBook Pro. The video signal coming out of new MacBook Pro's is now digital and all the TV's in the venues I work in have analogue TV's. Does anyone know of a digital to analogue converter I can get in the UK that will do the job
Thanks
Len

Re: Video out
If you can get the mini-DisplayPort to VGA adapter from Apple, then you should be able to run this dongle:

There are certainly more expensive adapter boxes, but this might suffice.
Oh, here's the US link to Apple Store DisplayPort to VGA adapter...

Re: Video out
Thanks for that.
I've not had time to get to apple to get their lead yet, when I do I 'll get the dongle you mention and try it, but I am concerned that it won't work. I've been on another forum and from the discussions on the subject there it seems that the new Apple's now send out digital signal and I need some kind of conversion box to run analogue.
I'll get back when I've given it a go. In the meantime I'll use my wife's laptop for work. The problem with that is, the laptop is small..... like her.

Re: Video out
the apple to VGA adapter is just that, it converts the signal to analog. then you can use any VGA to S-Video adapter you find on the market, there are like a dozen of them.
Re: Video out
I more or less had the same concerns, and we definitely covered this topic. Personally, I think getting the mini-DisplayPort to VGA adapter from Apple is a win all around, as you can then connect your lappy to most monitors, projectors, etc... As for the dongle, it's a £2 solution that won't break you even if it doesn't work - the converter boxes of which you mention are typically £50 and up. I'd certainly take the chance on the cheap solution. If you have a Mac store that you can walk in to, I'd certainly go there to get the Mac adapter. No point in waiting for it online (Apple isn't horribly fast at shipping things, from my experience), and whatever the savings would be, you're supporting your local economy.

Re: Video out
no, that is NOT a VGA to S-Video converter, it takes the straight VGA signal and pipes it, it does not convert it.
to make this work, you'd have to have your video card output "720x480 60Hz Interlaced", which is not a trivial thing to do, even for an expert.
You need a real CONVERTER, not just a cable.

Re: Video out
After searching for a converter I found one thats available in the UK. I ordered it on Saturday morning and it came on Monday morning, and cost £35 plus £5 post. Took to apple, they tried it out, it worked so they replaced my laptop with the new 17' macbook pro that sends out a digital video signal. I brought it home and connected it to my system and was able to send the signal to my signal splitter that feeds all the TV's and now I'm a happy bunny, cos it works a treat without any loss of picture size on different sized TV's
