A.S.K CD-G's

Post by Brendan »

Are there still issues with burning and ripping "All Star Karaoke" discs? Sometimes only the audio shows up in Kjams and i am unable to even burn a copy of the disc. The meta info does not show up either. I remember reading about this in the forums months ago, just wondering if there is a way around this.
Thank you

this is a copy protection issue and is a problem for the operating system, not for kJams. kJams relies on the OS to provide the disc. If the OS can not see the disc, there is no way kJams can see it. More info here.

Yes, i remember that being the case with the OS. Has anyone else had success with the sharpie method? I will not be buying these all star karaoke discs anymore. In fact, i think i will go to their website and bitch about it.

yes please complain to the remaining DRM fools, and boycott them until they see the light.

I have a Sound Choice CD that I tried the sharpie thing on. Didn't work for me.

I think all star karaoke are seeing the light, they are now making what they call "hybrid" CDG which i was able to rip without having any issues.

To be fair, I've never seen the sharpie thing done so that it worked. And, seeing as how I have just the one disc out of I don't even know how many SC discs, I'm writing it off as a cost of doing business. In 5 years of running a karaoke show I've only lost one disc (which I really did physically lose somehow), none to breaking or scratching, and now one to DRM. I can live with that.

Well i only have a couple of these discs. It's not the cost for me, if i cant use the disc, i am not supporting manufactures who are not looking out for their customers. I dont really buy discs anymore, i just download songs. Thanks for the feedback on the sharpie. Someone suggested trying it on the forum a while back.

the sharpie trick (or the razor-cut-to-size sticky note) may work better on Windows. if you mount it on Windows, you can use the free audiograbber to do your ripping, then xfer back to kjams.

ASK has some great music, but...

I was getting ready to buy some of these. But I definitely don't want to support DRM copy protection

Maybe I can send a signal and just by the non-DRM discs.

Brenden, can you supply a list of good and bad discs from ASK?

Well, every All Star Karaoke disc i have tried does NOT work with the exception of the hybrid disc. A.S.K discs will say "Hybrid" on them. Otherwise, I would not buy anything else from them. Cheers

darn. They have some good song titles, and the ones I've heard sounded great

copy protection... Jerks.

I'll let them know I was gonna buy many (all?) of their songs. Now it will be none.

Except I haven't found their website.
