Between Song Filler

Is kJams missing a feature you need? Post it here! Note: if iTunes has it but kJams doesn't, it's a good bet kJams will have it, but that I just haven't gotten around to it yet. But go ahead and request it anyway!

Between Song Filler

Post by cooldjmac »

Okay, kJams is pretty awsome right now so if I was to pick a new feature I would like to have added it would be to have a "just songs" playlist that would be filled with some great music that would be played if "enabled" to play after a singer is done singing.

I like to keep the crowd going and keeping in the mood and right now I jump over to MegaSeg or iTunes to play a song while I wait for the next singer to come up on stage. I then fade out iTunes by sliding the slider down on the interface as I start kJams up for the singer.

I know thats probably an impossible task, but so far nothing seems to be impossible for Dave.

Does anyone have an idea of a better way to fill that awkward silence between last singer and next singer and be able to fade it out as soon as they are on stage and ready.

i know i know. it's been on the list since the beginning. you'll be happy to know that that feature is now very close to the top of my "to do" list.

sorry, didn't mean to be a broken record. I actually didn't see it as something someone already requested.

I currently just have the preferences to pause between tracks and have iTunes or MegaSeg up and ready to press play when the song is over.

I suppose what would be helpful is an option that has the Who's Singing Next up while paused or stopped on the screen. It beats a blank screen... actually I really like that idea almost better then I like the filler song idea... of course both would kick butt.

Oh no, I got the update and love the Who's Singing Next but what I was trying to say in my last post was I would like that window to stay up between songs.

Example:
Song Comes to an End
Who's Singing Next is shown (Since I have pause between tracks) I would like this to stay up and in the meanwhile I will play a song from iTunes or MegaSeg while the next person gets up on stage. I then fade out of the iTunes/MegaSeg song and press play on kJams which should fade out the Who's Singing Next screen and start the next song for the person on stage.

Currently the Who's Singing Next fades out to a black screen. Anyway to keep that up when pausing between tracks?

simple solution to original post:
you can get a cheap MP3 player ($25) for your filler music
hook it into the mixer, just keep it playing on repeat playlist, fade it in/out

if iTunes doesn't recognize it, use the Finder to drag your songs to the device
you can still get ones that take standard batteries (AAA) at Fry's -- Sansa Refurbished. I use rechargeable hybrid batt's, ray-o-vac

LOVE IT! just downloaded the update and see this has been added (pausing with the Who Sings Next and its great.

I now play the song that was just sung as a filler with MegaSeg and then fade it out as I start up kJams with the new singer on stage.

Works great! Love It!

I suppose the only way it could be better is if the filler music was built into kJams with the fade out of filler song and then start Karaoke Song.

If you do add the ability to play filler music it would be great if you could put the start time of the song (to avoid the intro stuff). I like to start the filler song at the chorus of the song that was just sung.

anyways... LOVE the pause on who sings next, it makes using a seperatae MP3 player source as filler music so much easier while keeping the video for the audience populated. THANKS!

between singers Music ....

I use a firewire sound card (Firebox) which enables MP3 players (not Itunes) to use the output of the card as a separate channel and the built in sound card (headphone out) as the second channel. Then I use a basic dj mixer and use the cross fader between songs ..I keep the mp3 player always playing so anytime I slide over to it...it's playing. Again the mp3 player has to have the feature of selecting the output card or internal card so that it is completely unique from the Kjam output which plays on the built in sound card. works great

I don't know if this is your plan, but the most exciting idea for the music filler would be to have the option to pick a playlist from iTunes as the filler source.

For me, I like to have about 5 stabs that I can click at any point and they instantly play.

In other programs I have used I had this set up for cheering, booing, and playing the pop/american idol theme. Also I take sound bites from recent tv shows etc and throw them in now and then.

It's also important (for me) that the button acts like a sample player in that if you press it many time is keeps replaying instantly to give a stutter type effect. Would need assigning to keys to accomodate this I think.

Hope that's useful
