Hello Dave,
Love kJams! Thanks! I am using kJams Pro and the purchased version of IJams on a Macbook Pro, Iphone 4 and second generation Ipad. After reading through the forums and networking instructions on wiki, I am still having trouble getting ijams to locate the venue created in kjams. I have had a successful connection in from my home network but am unable to get the connection to work on any other network.
Steps I have tried:
- Restarting all devices, reconnecting them to the new network in order - Macbook Pro first, started KJams, double checked Enable KJams webserver was marked, then opened ijams on the iphone and ipad (after ensuring they were on the same network)
- Manually connecting iphone and ipad to KJams by using the hostname and port numbers suggested on wiki pages
- I created the computer to computer network (works great!) but my computer then doesn't think it is online so I cannot stream.
What am I missing?!?!? Thanks so much Dave!
Jannell
IJams not able to find KJams Venue
Re: IJams not able to find KJams Venue
you need to absolutely confirm that your iDevice and your mac are on the same network.
on the mac: go to the "control panel->network->WIFI->advanced->TCP-IP" and note your IPv4 address
on your iOS: "settings->Wi-Fi->[tap the blue "right arrow" on the network you're on] and note your "IP Address"
the IP addresses of both should be EXACTLY the same except for the very last number.

Re: IJams not able to find KJams Venue
Thank you Dave~
My Mac ip ends with 16.42.3, my ipad ends with 16.42.4. What else can I try/check?
Thanks!

Re: IJams not able to find KJams Venue
what about the first number? and after that, try connecting to kjams from a web browser on another computer on the network
Re: IJams not able to find KJams Venue
Dave,
One thing I haven't been able to figure out easily, what is the hostname I use when trying to add the venue manually?
I have entered some variations of the following based on research and what others have posted on forums:
Name: (The Venue Name entered here, case-sensitive in case it matters)
Hostname: (tried - http://kjams.com:12345 then tried kjams.com:12345, then tried both with a new port number assigned, then I tried with the hostname to my home internet - (a set of numbers with dashes then-) hsd1.il.comcast.net)
Port: Tried a few different port numbers here beginning with 12345, then 2040, and 1040.
I closed and restarted kjams between each change to make sure the changes took. A "regression test" if you will changing one thing at a time on the Mac, then on the iphone and ipad.
I tried each of these, then retried after I turned off all of my "cloud" services in case there was problems with the ports overlapping or something.
In response to your question: what about the first number? and after that, try connecting to kjams from a web browser on another computer on the network
The first number was the same. I will try another computer (I need to look up how to do that!)
Thanks Dave!

Re: IJams not able to find KJams Venue
think about this: what you WANT is to connect to the computer sitting on your desk. what you just TRIED was to connect to kjams.com. you know, THIS web site that you're on now? how could you think that my web server would be hosting your music?tried - http://kjams.com:12345 then tried kjams.com:12345, then tried both with a new port number assigned
did you read the instructions for the server?
https://karaoke.kjams.com/wiki/Server#How_To_Turn_It_On
specifically step 6 tells you how to get the web client to "know" the name of YOUR server. step 7.3 only lists an EXAMPLE, the example is NOT your server, it's mine.
if you really want to find out manually what YOUR host name is, go to system prefs->sharing, and find "Computers on your local network can access your computer at:"
Re: IJams not able to find KJams Venue
I understand the kjams:12345 is your site and understand that wouldn't make sense.
I was able to connect through bonjour/safari from e other computers on the same network in the house. Still not able to get ijams to find the venue on the iphone or ipad.
Thank you again for your time.

Thank you, I tried entering this manually into ijams without success. I used the venue name for name, my hostname, and the port # from kjams.if you really want to find out manually what YOUR host name is, go to system prefs->sharing, and find "Computers on your local network can access your computer at:"

Re: IJams not able to find KJams Venue
try wtkJams then, it's a little better, see if that will connect?
if that doesn't connect, then it indicates your iphone somehow?

Correction:on the mac: go to the "control panel->network->WIFI->advanced->TCP-IP" and note your IPv4 address
On the Mac: go to the "System Preferences->Network->Airport" and note your IP address under Status
