Slow searches
Slow searches
I'm looking for tips on speeding up my song searches. If I search for a track while someone is singing, the lyrics hang or lag. It also displays zero results until the search is COMPLETE. This is a NEW MacBook Pro with an i5 processor and 4GB Ram. I know I have an excessively large song DB, but I was using another program (which will remain nameless on your forum out of respect), and it was MUCH faster searching through songs, and I could queue people up while I had singers singing. My show has been very sluggish since I switched over. I know part of it is because I don't know program as well, but that search is killin me.
Also, Is there any way to have the search running as you type? Like if I type Da, it will fill in Dave or something like that? Not sure what you call It.

that should never happen. if it's happening, it's a bug that can be fixed. If I search for a track while someone is singing, the lyrics hang or lag
how many songs in your library?
are you playing a CDG song when the lyrics lag?
does it lag every time? or just occasionally?
that is how it works, yesIt also displays zero results until the search is COMPLETE
the rest of your questions are answered in the Slow Searching link
Re: Slow searches
I have 133946 songs. Yes, I am playing a CDG (zipped) and it happens every time. I have nothing else running. If I search for a track while someone is singing, the lyrics hang or lag.

Re: Slow searches
To get into a little more detail, while it is searching, the song plays fine...my apologies for the confusion. Once the search s finished, and KJams attempts to post the data, it takes maybe 2-3 seconds and the lyrics on the currently playing song freeze. Once the data posts, the lyrics continue where they should be...not where they left off.
This is forcing me to search for and enter singers' songs between performances. On nights I have 30+ singers it slows my show to a crawl. I pride myself, and I'm known as the best KJ in the area...I am always trying to improve for my singers, and the venues are calling me. I'm afraid of losing this. Any help you could provide would be most beneficial. I really don't want to go back to my old PC solution, but it's looking like I may have to.

Re: Slow searches
Thanks for taking a look into my system yesterday. However, I believe I've found the culprit. I tried to duplicate the setup last night. I was doing a DJ/Karaoke night on Sunday. I had my Numark NS7 plugged into one USB port, and a powered hub plugged into the other. Off the hub I had my WD Passport UNPOWERED harddrive, Numark DJ/IO (External sound card) & Logitech trackman USB trackball. I could not get the NS7 to work on the hub, so I swapped ports with the harddrive, and it seemed to work. I wonder if the hub was the bottleneck that slowed everything down? I am currently looking to buy a 1TB Firewire or TB drive to replce it, and I'll use the USB as a backup.
Thanks!

Re: Slow searches
excellent. yes Firewire is great (untill Thunderbolt is pervasive). make sure you get FW800.
Re: Slow searches
I only have a FW800 port on this machine...400 is no better than USB 2.0?
Thanks!

Re: Slow searches
Do you think that what was causing the issue? And also the reason we couldn't duplicate it yesterday?
Thanks!

Re: Slow searches
it's possible, but can't really tell without a reliable reproduction of the issue.
Re: Slow searches
I have a show tonight. I'll let you know how it goes. So far, so good though. Incidentally, it's still pushing data from yesterday...

Thanks!

Re: Slow searches
you can safely stop the pushing for now, and let it pick up again later.
