browsing app

Is kJams missing a feature you need? Post it here! Note: if iTunes has it but kJams doesn't, it's a good bet kJams will have it, but that I just haven't gotten around to it yet. But go ahead and request it anyway!

browsing app

Post by Brendan »

I have to ask. Could you create an app, possibly to work with ijams so i could upload the library to my iphone? This would allow people to browse the library rather than trying to think of a song to sing. It would be a one time thing you could upload before going into a show and update as you get new songs. Even if you couldnt have the ability to select a song and add it to your tonight list, you could tell the KJ or fill out a slip  This would work well for us amateur KJ's but may not work well for pro KJ's unless everyone could somehow upload the library to their own iphones. would the meta take up too much space?

i think it would just be a "special mode" for iJams, where you explicitly state you're willing to wait for the download.

Dave and I have had some discussions about adding a feature to browse the library without having to download the entire thing to your iPhone. Basically I would just have iJams find out the total number of songs available and display a list on the iPhone, but only load the songs dynamically from kJams as the user scrolls down the list on the screen. I've implemented features sort of like this before, and it's actually even similar to what Dave does in kJams, rather than load an entire 30,000+ song library into memory. Before adding this feature to iJams, it would require some work to add the support to the kJams web server interface.

Dave, is Nik still thinking about adding some extra features to the web protocol such as those we discussed via email a little while back?

Correct on both accounts (but replace school with work). Sorry I've been out of the loop recently, but yes I definitely want to improve the kJams web protocol.
