Zipped songs under Catalina

Just talk about kJams stuff with each other, describe things you did that worked, talk about your setup, anything that doesn't fit into the other forums!

Zipped songs under Catalina

Post by HowardBrazee »

I boot to Mojave to run kJams. But today I used Spotlight under Catalina to do a search and got a result which found an error within a Karaoke song. Googling, one answer I found is that the file is zipped with a 32-bit zip program.

Does that make sense? Will we have to convert our songs when before we run kJams under Catalina? Or was that answer messed up?

did you test if you could unzip that exact same file under Mojave?

i expect the zip file is corrupt either way. zipping / unzipping a file is unaffected by the bit-depth of the app that did the compression / decompression.

I'll check. Hmm, I went back to Spotlight for that same search and got that message immediately without having a "find". Pulled out a different utility to find where the file is. I could open a different Karaoke zip file with Catalina.

I booted to Mojave and double-clicked on that song and a few others. They all unzipped. Went back to Catalina and got that error with those songs.

you're right, catalina can't unzip files that have roman diacritics, when zipped by an OS < Catalina. crap.
i'll have to deal with that!

Is this something that Apple is going to fix?
Or will you need to have an obsolete unzipper forever?
Or will current zipped files need to be converted?

Just curious.

It may be that Apple has already fixed it. After I upgraded to Catalina 10.15.4 yesterday, I opened a few zipped songs successfully.
