Next song auto-cache issue
Next song auto-cache issue
I am running the Lite version and have a problem with what appears to be auto-caching of the next song. If the next song is one that you have to pay for and I let the current song play to the end I get prompted for the purchase and it takes about 3 clicks to cancel out of it and get back to my playlist. Sometimes, if the next song is a Chartbuster streaming song and I attempt to stop it while downloading kJams will lock up and I have to Force Quit the app. In preferences I have Pre-cache next song disabled so is there some other setting I'm missing?
Re: Next song auto-cache issue
it seems you're reporting two separate issues.
1) it should take only one cancel to get out of a purchase, if not i'd say it was a bug. i'll look into this.
2) cancelling a streaming cache task should not crash or hang. definitely a bug. i'll look into this too.
3) pre-cacheing on or off should not affect either of the above.

Re: Next song auto-cache issue
Perhaps I should report yet another problem that contributes to the number of clicks to cancel out of the purchase which is a constant prompt by kJams One Click Purchase for keychain access. No matter if I click Always Allow or just Allow it will still prompt every time I start kJams and every time it auto-caches a song that I need to purchase. I did some Google searches and performed a Keychain repair but it found no errors. I'm a noob with the Mac so this is new ground for me....got any ideas?
Re: Next song auto-cache issue
that is very unusual. are you sure you're on the latest version of kJams?
it is supposed to ask once per launch, unless you say "always allow".
Update: Just tested, and it does take only one cancel to get out of a purchase, unless it's the first purchase since you started running. so i've fixed it such that if it IS the first purchase, and it asks to "allow" or "deny", and you click "deny", that kJams immediately gives up and doesn't say "first you have to enter your credit card...". new release soon.
also tested canceling a streaming activity via stop sign, and it works fine. if you can come up with a recipe set of steps that always cause the problem, i'll try to reproduce it here.

Re: Next song auto-cache issue
I deleted my kJams One Click Settings entry in the keychain, deleted kJams, re-downloaded the latest version from your website (same version as the one I deleted), re-entered my One Click Settings, and re-tested with the same results. I still get a prompt each time that I open kJams for access to the One Click Settings keychain even though I click Always Allow, is there a way around this other than opening up access to all applications(which works btw)? Also, is there a reason why kJams attempts to load the next song in the playlist or library even though I have Pause Between Tracks enabled and Pre-cache Next Song disabled?
I will continue to try and find a way to replicate the lock up issue when canceling during an auto-cache of a streaming song.
A minor side issue: The Stores UI pane in Preferences is too large for my MBP 13" screen which cuts the Cancel/OK buttons in half at the bottom of my screen. I can't move the pane up any higher and I can't seem to be able to resize it either. Screenshots available if needed.

Re: Next song auto-cache issue
did you do this today? cuz the new release went up at about 11:15am Pacific time today. I suspect you have r57 instead of r58.re-downloaded the latest version from your website (same version as the one I deleted)
what version of the OS are you on? If "Always Allow" doesn't work, this indicates a problem with the OS, not with kJams, as I have no control whatsoever over that. Perhaps you should try Repair Permissions?I still get a prompt each time that I open kJams
Pre-Cache means "load up the next song DURING the current song". If you turn OFF Pre-Cache, kJams will still LOAD the next song, but AFTER the current song, then if you have "pause between tracks" turned on it will pause the now-loaded song. The point there is to enable "instant on" when you un-pause.is there a reason why kJams attempts to load the next song in the playlist or library even though I have Pause Between Tracks enabled and Pre-cache Next Song disabled
yes, a design flaw, to be sure. you can switch to a different pref panel to get the window smaller, then you can press OK. Alternately, just press ENTER or RETURN on the keyboard, which is the same as pressing the OK button (ESC for Cancel). The Stores UI pane in Preferences is too large for my MBP 13" screen
Re: Next song auto-cache issue
My OS is 10.6.8 and I did re-install r57 earlier today but it automatically upgraded to r58 this evening so I am up to date. I've tried repairing permissions, running keychain first aid, manually adding access in the One Click Settings keychain entry for kJams but all to no avail. If you look at the keychain image below it is as if kJams is a new app each time it loads so that the keychain has to store it each time anew. I don't know if I've installed kJams correctly or not but at this point I give up and if anyone else has this issue I hope they will post a solution here in the future. For now I'll just deal with the extra prompts and make sure that I stop the song before the end to ensure it doesn't display an unintended next song.
Re: Next song auto-cache issue
let's get on the phone so i can actually look at your system. i may be able to figure out what's going on.
