Hi,
I noticed in the latest release:
BIG-ASS FEATURE: when you do "add to library", kJams can now optionally copy/move your files for you (rather than referencing). --> this opens the door for "keep library organized" and "consolidate library" features.
I was wondering if this would help with my problem: Since my Apple laptop can't read cdg's, I have transferred my entire collection using my Windows desktop onto an external drive, then connect that to the laptop. No problem when I loaded the whole library all at once.
Now, when I have a new cdg and tried to add it to the external drive (with the desktop) and then add it to laptop's library, it can't find the songs and I can't tell kJams where to look for the new songs because each song on the external drive was saved in a different folder (under each artist's name).
How can I find (Add to Library) these new files quickly, rather than look inside 100's of various folders?
Will the latest release help me to do this quicker? Or am I doing something completely wrong?!?
Thanks,
Don
Adding new cdg's to external drive
Re: Adding new cdg's to external drive
have you tried it? some of them actually CAN read CDGsSince my Apple laptop can't read cdg
well, when you say "load", are you "move/copy"-ing, or are you "reference"-ing? that's kindof a big dealNo problem when I loaded the whole library all at once
i'm going to say you're doing it wrong for the purpose you're trying to achieve.am I doing something completely wrong
but i'm not sure exactly what you're doing.
are you ripping from the windows machine directly to this external drive? or are you ripping to the internal then copying to external?
when you move them over to your mac, are you referencing or move/copying?
are you trying to keep both mac and windows in sync?
if your ONLY purpose for windows is for ripping, and you'll ONLY be using the mac for your real kjams work then you should do this:
repeat
delete everything from the windows machine
set the windows kjams to rip to the external drive
do some ripping
move the external drive to the mac
add to library but use "move/copy"
end repeat
basically start with a CLEAN SLATE on windows every time
then any new rips you make will all be obviously new
make a COPY of all the stuff you rip on the mac
then throw out the stuff from windows
Re: Adding new cdg's to external drive
Hi,
My Apple does not rip cdgs. (I tried).
I am ripping the cds from windows kjams program directly to the external drive, and then "referencing" them when I get to the Apple. (I decided to keep all the files on the external drive, rather than move them to the apple).
But since the Apple drive can hold them all, now I want to switch to having the apple store the files (rather than the external drive). I assume I need to delete the entire library from Apple kjams...
Thanks,
Don

Re: Adding new cdg's to external drive
no, you don't need to delete.
You'll need to copy the folder of songs, from the external, into the "kJams" folder. note: NOT the "kJams Music" folder. (read why here).
Then dismount the external drive, then use the Symbolic Link Trick to fix up your library.
