CD/DVD drive problem

Post by jandys »

Hello, I have a MacBook and I'm trying to rip some CD+G discs into kJams, to convert CD+G to MP3+G. It didn't work because my Matshita DVD-R UJ-857E drive would not read CD+G. Please let me know what CD/DVD drive I need to get my MacBook to be able to rip these discs. Or if is there any other option to get my karaoke CDG into my macbook. Thank you :(

Compatible Drives

Works for Sure

LiteOn 20X DVD/CD LH-20A1PX500C, or DVD20DLSE
LaCie d2 DVD±RW with LightScribe
Samsung SH-S182M/BSBN
HP dvd1040e
$60 at CompUSA
HL-DT-ST DVDRW GWA4080M: some MacBookPro's have these built in!! (check the MBPro BEFORE you buy so you know, it's rather random which drive you'll get if you just order the MBPro online)
HP DV920105 CA 16X DVD with LightScribe
LaCie 16X DL
Plextor 708UF
Yamaha CRW-F1E
Sony DRX-510UL DVD-R Works for ripping. Burning has not been tested yet.

Does NOT work for Sure

Many "Matshita" drives don't read or write (many mac laptops have them)
Discs burned with Pioneer DVR can can be read by other computers, but not real karaoke hardware.

Another user just wrote back telling me the 1040e works fine. Actually it said "1040e" on the box but it actually comes up as a "1040d".

so it's the "D" that works, but they're putting them in "E" boxes??

YMMV

Jeez, i went through a couple of drives trying to find one that works. If i remember right it would not work on hardware Karaoke players. I tried it on a couple different players.

Ripping

and yes the tryout version only lets you rip a couple tracks from a disc.

Jandys, Can you try to play a burned cdg on a hardware player? I'm curious to see if it plays. This is where i believe i had trouble with this drive.
Thank you

MB Pro Drives That Work

Post by Tashmoo »

I ordered a MB Pro back in Nov 07 and it came with a HL-DT-ST DVDRW GSA-S10N drive which also works just fine.

Tashmoo: does it burn discs that will then play in real karaoke hardware?
