Problem, running 2 monitors with Thunderbolt

Post by natblend »

I saw some earlier discussion about monitors, but none about my problem.
I recently bought a new MacbookPro (2011 8;2 version, OSX 10.7.5.

Problem, running 2 monitors with the mini display port.

For the last 5 years, I'm been on an older MBP, using the DVI to RCA adapter, splitting off to the singer monitor
and the house big screen tv using the rca video inputs.

I've learned the hard way ($10-20 at a time), I can't do this with the "Thunderbolt"
RCA's can be hooked up, but useless because it's still digital.
I'm unable to "Daisy Chain" anything I'm working with.
I can't afford the wireless that DeusExMachina posted about.

Bought a HDMI splitter, that won't work either, not sure why, but I've tried and so have others.
It looks like I can buy a USB video out for my second Monitor.
Will that work? Will it all be in sync?

Thanks much for any guidance I can get.

you can get a Mini-DisplayPort to RCA adapter, then go to your RCA splitter, right?

The only thing I've tried is a new mini-display to DVI adapter, the I plugged that into the same DVI to RCA plug I use with the older MBP
also, I think I read that 2 monitors need to be the same.
that's not going to happen

Does that link you posted Mini DisplayPort to Composite Video , convert it to analog?

you misunderstand. i'm talking about your Mini-DisplayPort, not DVI. Mini-DisplayPort is always digital. the device i linked to CONVERTS that digital signal to analog.

FYI, you can also use a cheap, used, Apple TV to wirelessly connect a second monitor now.

You may experience delays with the Apple TV

it's true that going thru AppleTV will delay the video signal slightly, but since the audio is going thru the headphone jack to the mixer to the amp to the speakers, it will not affect your show at all.

While you may experience stuttering video, I have never experienced actual delay of the signal using Apple TV.

I use this https://www.images2.co.uk/GRANDTEC_USB_ ... 49100.html Connected to this http://www.cables2u.co.uk/mini-female-p ... oCaejw_wcB via a VGA lead. The Grand View is USB powered so there's less problems and it gives me two outputs, one is an RCA and the other is VGA, both of which can go into powered splitters. you can find them both cheap on ebay. I've never heard of a USB video out
