Vanishing Library

Feel free to post bug reports here. I need exact, detailed steps showing me how I can re-create the bug on my machine, so give as much info and detail as possible.

Vanishing Library

Post by ChurchCat »

I am not sure what is going on but I open kJams and the library has gone missing.

I can get it back by "find orphaned files" and then they go missing again when I open up kJams once more.

I am not a happy puss.

there was a bug a few days ago that would abort the saving of playlists when you quit, causing the symptom you see. are you on the very latest version?

after you find orphaned files, it is supposed to re-save your database, watch for that. or you could command-option-shift-S which will force a save. please let me know

I am running 47r35

Your advice has not helped. Everytime I quit I lose the library.

I "Scan kJams library for orphaned songs" and after ten minutes they come back.

"Save database" and command alt shift S appear to do nothing.

i have to see your system. i'm in the middle of a server upgrade which won't be complete until this thursday. After that i'll be able to look in on your system to figure out what's wrong. I know i'm asking a lot but I'd *reeeeeely* appreciate it if you would not touch kJams until then because i desperately want to see it in this condition. If you twiddle around and somehow get it to work I may not be able to discover what went wrong in the first place. I want so much to know what is wrong so I can *fix* it so that it never happens again!!!

Hmm,

You want to "see" my system. What would be involved?

what's involved:

1) you login to my private network
2) you enable remote desktop for guests who request permission
3) you grant me permission when I ask

then i can see and control your screen and poke around to find out what's wrong.

What is Comcast?

What is Verizon?

You are sorry for what?

I am happy to send you a log, do you still need to look my system over?

Comcast is my current "evil empire" internet service provider. they have recently cut me off from doing anything interesting.

Verizon is my new ISP, not much less evil, however they will sell me a business account, which means I pay them extra to not cut off anything.

Yes I want to look at your system but I simply can't until I get Verizon installed, but my neighbor won't let them run the line. I have to get the frickin permit from the city and a police officer to hand her papers saying Verizon has a right of way. It's all complicated.

okay send the log.

No Leopard and no iChat.

I did send a Log.

I will try again if you did not get it.

Oh, one more fact to help you figure it out.

Normally I run kJams on my main G5 iMac (iMac A)

I have now copied my kJams library (library A) onto an external hard disk. I have taken this copy and connected it to my other computer (iMac B).

I removed the kJams library (Library B) and replaced it with an Alias to my copy of Library A.

It works fine.
So the problem must be with Kjams on iMac A. If you tell me how to delete everything pertaining to kJams on iMac A I could just reinstall it from your website and then have it read the old library.

p.s. I really should learn how to use iChat.

i really think this is a permissions problem on your iMac A, and therefore i doubt that a reinstall of kJams will do anything for you. Good news! Verizon is here right now and is installing my fiber. I hope to be up and running tonight! Are you around this afternoon? else are you around sunday? I can have a look finally!
