Macbook Pro CD+G?

Feel free to post bug reports here. I need exact, detailed steps showing me how I can re-create the bug on my machine, so give as much info and detail as possible.

Macbook Pro CD+G?

Post by bojangles08 »

I have a less than 1 year old Macbook Pro. I used kJams a few months ago and it worked great. Loved it.
I put in one of the CD+G's I have (karaoke cd) and it now says "your drive can not play CD+G..." This is the same computer.

Any ideas what I should do?

Thanks.

I did that. Every time I try to play any song on the CD it gives me the "Sorry, your drive doesn't read CD+G..." message. I downloaded kJams on my older Mac and get the same thing.

Thanks for your quick response. Hope we can find out what's wrong.

then you were mistaken about your computer ever being able to read CD+G discs. it MUST have been a different computer, or you used a different drive, or you never actually ripped a CD with that computer.

It's the "Incompatible Drive" error message.

yes if you're getting that then it's impossible that it had ever, ever worked in the first place.

I know, that's what I would think, too... but I used this exact computer in August to play the exact same karaoke CD using kJams.??? Not sure if my drivers getting updated through Apple possibly changed something...???

What would you suggest I do? Or is my only hope contacting Apple for their help?

Thanks

MATSHITA DVD-R UJ-898:

Not sure if I totally understand this.. but, I'm not trying to "burn" a disc (as I understand burn= write it onto a cd). Just trying to play the CD+G on kJams. There's a good chance I don't know what I'm talking about. :)

Here you go:

Firmware Revision: HC10
Interconnect: ATAPI
Burn Support: Yes (Apple Shipping Drive)
Cache: 1024 KB
Reads DVD: Yes
CD-Write: -R, -RW
DVD-Write: -R, -R DL, -RW, +R, +R DL, +RW
Write Strategies: CD-TAO, CD-SAO, DVD-DAO
Media:
Type: CD-ROM
Blank: No
Erasable: No
Overwritable: No
Appendable: No

yes, you see, MATSHITA drives never could, and never will read CD+G discs. you are simply misremembering.

Oh, OK. Thanks.

Do all newer Macbooks have a MATSHITA drive?

Thanks for your help and quick responses. Really appreciate it.

actually most newer ones have the HL-DT-ST drives (hitachi) which ARE capable of reading CD+G, and many can burn.

I work with Mac's all the time and their cd drives do not read cd+g's and you have to use an external drive that will read them.

I have an ancient MBP. It reads CD+G just fine.
