Conform song names doesn't apply for mp4

Post by joachimschmidt »

The preferenced setting for file names (I have R-S-L) does not work for mp4.
They are named L-T-R-S against my setting.

It is at the end of my last screen video actually.
I have a handful of songs, mp4.
If i mark them (may have been in a playlist) "push filenames", the names are set as LTRS.
My setting is RSL

songs INSIDE the "kJams Music" folder are required to be LTRS. you can only conform ones that are outside that folder.

Good to know!

But i never use the kJams Music folder.
All songs are referenced at ~/Music/Karaoke/
Including the trial mp4 in the movie.

GAH! I tried to reproduce it, and it worked as expected (correct).
Something else in play. Sorry.

this starts efter some time of use.
But then it is 100% reproducable.
Also, when name is pushed as LTRS, though i set it to RSL.
kJams loses the songs, can't find them.
I have log and a clip should it be of interest.

songs INSIDE the "kJams Music" folder are ALWAYS in "LTRS" format, regardless of what you set as the conform template.

okay, so that's a start: but now we need to discover what "after some time of use" boils down to. there is some event that triggers the problem. before: it works, after: it fails. what's that event?

no, the vids that show it failing won't help me discover the event that CAUSES the fail. that's what we need most now.

and it IS expected that, after it fails, kjams WILL lose track of songs, cuz it changes it's own notion of the file path, but the path on disk is not changed!

It's all files outside the kJams music folder.
Several 100s of mp4 just processed by Handbrake with same settings, only a few fail.

I am fighting with one song now. I set the meta tags with VLC, clear kJams audio cache, reboot.
But as soon as kJams touches the file to alter any tags, the filename jumps back to LTRS and is lost.

That it's just a few files implies odd files.
That the songs meta info and filename is changed implies kJams meta handling ...
Gotta be a combination.

HOWEVER. a simple copy of the file, and replacing the previous one, makes it work.

Well, i keep on fighting this to see if i find any consistency.

okay that's fascinating. send me the song file that is wiggy, with the correct (pre-kjams) meta set for the name, and screen shot your "Tags" pref panel.
it may be that the actual file itself has mp4 meta tags in it (similar to ID3), which will override the file name. i'll check it out!
