Zipping when pushing meta data
Files (all zipped on trial run), some get warning when pushing meta data.
Since they work well in Finder, and since files may pass or warn randomly and different ones on different runs. Could it be kJams handling the zipping?

Re: Zipping when pushing meta data
But then again, huge speed gain to go without zipping. I think i'll do that.
Re: Zipping when pushing meta data
does the same problem happen in the 32bit version?
note if you change meta in 32bit, you'll have to rebuild your 64bit (trash Songs.ksql, and backups before running)

I'm on M1. Can't run 32
Re: Zipping when pushing meta data
ok. when you say "speed gain to go without zipping" what do you mean? does kjams actually respond slower WITH zipping?

Re: Zipping when pushing meta data
yes, i have not compared extensively but adding, pulling pushing data, start playing, i feel it all is faster when files are unzipped.

Re: Zipping when pushing meta data
The zip-error MAY have something to do with char encoding ... in the names?
I don't know how it works but i had to set "Unarchiver" to Windows -1(?) to get it running smoothly without dialogs.

Re: Zipping when pushing meta data
the thing to test is user-responsiveness.
yes pushing meta data means it must unzip, set the data, then re-zip, but that does NOT affect how quickly kjams responds to you, because all that happens in the background.
unzipping time is trivially fast so i'd be very very surprised if you could detect a measurable difference in user-responsiveness.
don't trust how you think you FEEL about it, please actually measure with some kind of time-profiling.

Ok
So, two things here, speed is for another day.
But the alert msg about a zip problem i guess was not there in earlier versions and MAY be char encoding issue. ...really the zip files fault i suppose.

Re: Zipping when pushing meta data
I have found that the animation that reveals then hides the activity progress bars is very CPU intensive and is probably not worth it. i'll be shutting off the animation soon, which will help a little bit.
re: zip problem: can you reproduce it at will by setting up the conditions and doing the same steps? if you can that will REALLY help me nail it. what i need is a step-by-step recipe for how to cause the problem. more info here.

Re: Zipping when pushing meta data
Tricky.
i pulled a folder with 900-ish zipped cdg+mp3 and added them (since now i only have unzipped files).
highlighted some and repeatedly pushed meta.
different files, sometimes none of them, one or several brought up this alert.
(All files unzipped without error with Archive Utility)

Re: Zipping when pushing meta data
The "Could not find ..." warning is strange. I use "Refernece" for all files. kJams/kJams Music folder is not used. Nothing to look for there.
Re: Zipping when pushing meta data
