Walmart.com has an Android device that has a 7" display for $49.

This afternoon I'll make a version of the wtkJams Android app that just shows the rotation, as well as reporting the event to http://wtk.cm. It will only work with the release version of kJams.
This post has been massively edited. The 4.3" device that was initially posted has been found to be a really bad device. Any of these cheap Walmart devices are going to have bad displays and bad battery life. The old saying is definitely true, you get what you pay for.

Re: 4.3" LCD Rotation Display
I was hoping it would be a one day thing to write a Rotation widget, but keep running into the age old Android mdns issue.
I ended up adding a port scanner, but that really sucks, wish Bonjour could work 100% on Android.
I added venue,venuename to the /info response and checked it in.
Did you order the device from walmart.com?

Re: 4.3" LCD Rotation Display
scan for 80 and 12345 first, then give up and put up a window telling the user to tell the KJ to use one of those two standard ports please
and yes, i ordered one, arriving today, YAY!

Re: 7" LCD Rotation Display
Sorry for the bad intel. Should be wise enough to know by now that cheap stuff is cheap stuff. That 4.3" display device has all sorts of bad issues:
* Rooted device ---don't trust *any* personal information on it!
* Browser reports as iPad
* Display is very low resolution
* Battery discharges quickly.
* No Google Play
The xelio isn't much better.
* Browser reports as iPad.
* Low resolution
* Battery discharges quickly
* No google play
Only good thing that I can say about it all, is it is a source of cheap devices for testing an App on the dark side of Android.
The beta program isn't available for everyone yet. Not yet to that point. None of these cheap devices can be used with TestFlightApp.com to easily install the app, since the browser reports it as an iPad, you get the iOS install. Instead, you must click here to install (from your 'Droid)
If you want to know what your device browser is sending for user-agent, visit http://myip.cm

Re: 7" LCD Rotation Display
If anybody wants a good Android songbook device, stick with the name brands:
* Google Nexus 7 - http://www.google.com/nexus/7/
* Google Nexus 10
* Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 7" or 10"
Getting the latest model ensures that you get the best displays and battery life.

aaaaaaand this just in
Re: 7" LCD Rotation Display
If you would like to beta test the Android version of wtkJams Rotation, just PM me here.
Whatever device you use for this, can then eventually be used for the songbook browser.
wtkJams Rotation just provides a display of the current rotation along with an advertisement for wtkJams. You set it up next to you at the venue so that people can just look to see what the rotation is, instead of asking. So far it has been a decent hit locally.
The more testers we get for this, the more stable the Android version of wtkJams will be. Core functionality of wtkJams is in this app. The main problem area for Android is kJams discoverability. If every KJ uses this app, it helps make their venues more discoverable to the Android users.

Re: 7" LCD Rotation Display
Come on people that keep asking for Android... reach out.
Here are two excellent Android devices to use as inexpensive Songbooks.
http://www.walmart.com/ip/Nextbook-7-Ta ... s/22127002
http://www.walmart.com/ip/Nextbook-8-Ta ... s/23554123
They fully support Google services and have mini-HDMI output ports in case you want to hook to a larger display!

Re: 7" LCD Rotation Display
This has been going well, with special thanks to local KJ Desmond Atkinson running wtkJams Rotation for Android at every show. This has given an excellent test bed for some of the mission critical Android code, causing me to rewrite it several times to get it to the current robust state. So, getting closer to the Android version of wtkJams.
With that said, I'm now going to work remote at my son's house in Charleston SC for the next couple of weeks. I won't be working on wtkJams much, if any, so it looks like release has been delayed further out into September.
