Drive not compatible after reading 5th disc??!?

Just talk about kJams stuff with each other, describe things you did that worked, talk about your setup, anything that doesn't fit into the other forums!

Drive not compatible after reading 5th disc??!?

Post by djdave »

The 5th disc I'm trying to rip produces an error message that my drive is not compatible to read cd+gs. Why this disc and not the first 4?

That can happen with an exceptionally Scratchy disc, or if the particular disc is poorly mastered

Thanks. I'm trying my Skipdoctor on it now. Disc 7-9 are ripping fine.

I just burned nine songs to cdg also. I placed nine songs in a playlist then clicked the burn icon. It burned the songs in about a minute. After about a minute of no activity in the task bar, I ejected the disc then put it back in the drive and the songs appeared. I clicked play, the first song plays fine but on a few i get the same error message saying "Incompatible Drive" The cd drive "HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GE20LU10" reports that it is NOT capable of reading cd-g discs. Would you like to attempt to use it anyway? Or would you like to learn more about what compatible drives are available?. It gives me a choice of cancel, Attempt or Learn. When i attempt, it will play the video fine but no audio. A couple songs actually plays fine when i "attempt". It seems the songs i tried to burn pitch bent did not work but the others i left at "0" work.

i am sure the disc did NOT burn correctly when you ejected it. pitch bending should definitely work during burning, should not affect the result at all. try again?

Burned another cdg tonight. I placed 11 songs in a playlist, some pitch bent and burned it. 5 out of the 11 songs work. The other 6 have video but no audio :( I probably have a piece of shit burner  Some of the songs that burned successfully were pitch bent. Nothing happened in the task bar for 5 minutes before i touched it. I have a LG Light scribe external drive. Any thoughts? Could itunes be interfering? It does pop up when i insert a cd. - Cheers

stick a working disc in and once it shows up go help->send log file
also include your system profiler report on Disc Burning.

i really believe that pitch bending can't possibly have anything to do with it, unless i've recently broken that some how, which i doubt. as you said before, "Some of the songs that burned successfully were pitch bent".

can you send that info?

ok, from the log:

Code: Select all

-------------------------------
HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GE20LU10
Device does NOT support reading CD+G
Device does NOT support writing CD+G
Device supports DVD-ROM
Device supports DVD-RAM
Device supports DVD-R
Device supports CD-RW
Device supports CD-R
Device supports CD-ROM
-----------------------------
and from that, i see you have the "GE20-LU10", and then i look on the Drive Comatibility page:
GE20-LU10 can read but apparently only burns 2 tracks and fails after that
