iJams
iJams
1) I recommend you set up a new topic header for iJams.
2) very first impression - quite cool. I set up a new singer and added a song using my ipod touch.
3) Is there a way for an existing singer to log on to their name/history?
4) I am no communications techie, so excuse me if this is really a stupid question. I have wirelsss access in my house through an Airport. My Macbook uses that, as does my iPod touch. If I take my Macbook to a venue without a wireless network, can iPod touches and iPhone still use iJams to access the Kjams on my Macbook?

Re: iJams
1: we're working on it
2: yay
3: yes, select the singer in kJams and right click->get info, add a password
4: yes if you have no router (ie: you're naked on the internet) or you have port forwarding set to go to your laptop inside your LAN

Re: iJams
I have been telling the regs that I know have iPhones, that we will be doing the party via iPhones & Netbooks, vs. papers slips, at an upcoming Karaoke party in a few weeks. So you should be seeing some sales of iJams to our regular singers.
Dave, Have you thought about putting a link in the kJams webserver login page to the iJams iTunes page so singers can dload it from iTunes directly via 3g? I know I can edit the pages via the resources, but would rather have official link put into the config.
Now I am working on getting a few small old notebooks to run firefox browser in kiosk mode. So I am just going to pick up a wireless router, and not hook it up to the inet. I will break out some questions around that in another thread.

Hi.
I'm a bit confused. For my singers to use iJams does the venue have to have a wi-fi network in place, or is there a way they can link right to my macbook with airport on?

Re: iJams
Your mac and your iphone users need to be on the same wifi network, Im not sure if you can set you mac up to act as a local network, I'd be interested to hear.
One thing I have noticed, especially when i am playing in bars is that there is often a venue network, and many jukeboxes/quiz machine also offer wifi so i have to tell my singers which network I am on. A quick annoucement does the trick.
Dave: Is there a way to enable iJams to show the disk id, for my duplicate songs, my users see Tom Jones - Delilah about 5 times but do not know how to tell the versions (eg SF CB) apart.

Re: iJams
I believe you can set up an ad-hoc network, broadcasting directly from your MacBook yes. but i have not tried it, I would be interested to hear myself.
For iJams to show the album name (disc or publisher name) you have to have set your album name for all your songs within kJams. Read up on the many benefits of Perfect Metadata. Note: you don't need *Perfect* meta data for iJams, technically you just need something in the Album field, but we're all shooting for perfection aren't we?

I did get it to work. I just had to go to Airport and create a new network. I named it and iJams saw it just find. I'll tst it out tomorrow night with my singers. Thanks!

Sorry for not replying sooner.
I did try it and it worked great, and has been working great ever since. It's great for me because it cuts down on the amount of slips people use/turn in. I've found that people share their iPod/iPhone with friends, so whole tables are doing it through the app! Everyone that sees it is blown away by how cool it is, and how well it work

Re: iJams
I must have jinxed myself...last night I couldn't get it too work for more than a few minutes or so. Everyone would lose the connection, or just get an initial "Loading" screen that never loaded. I reset the airport as a server a few times but nothing seemed to help. I'm going to mess with it at home today.
UPDATE: It seems to be working fine here this morning. Maybe there was interference at the venue, or I just needed to restart. Hmm.
