I did. I tried a CD-R and a DVD+R. Still nothing. I re-booted. Still nothing.
Just tried a different USB cable. I took the one from my printer that I know works and Voila! Now my Mac detects the drive.
Mystery solved.
Sorry to be a bother.

Re: Mac Driver for HP1170E
For what it's worth, the box says Compatible with Windows 7 and Works with Windows Vista. I never checked. I just assumed because it was on the Kjams list and Kjams was a Mac app that the drive would be Mac supported.

Re: Mac Driver for HP1170E
That's what I thought, Dave. I powered it up, plugged it in and nothing happens. It has power because I can open/close the drawer. It doesn't show when I start up Disk Utility. I've tried both USB ports. I didn't think I had to re-boot, but I haven't tried that yet.

Mac Driver for HP1170E
Bought an HP 1170E external writer per your list of C D+G capable devices. Unfortunately, it came only with Windows software, no MAC DMG or driver. Any idea where I can get same? HP site claims it doesn't know the device.
