You may remove (delete) songs from:

  • The main library
  • A playlist
  • A rotation or Singers List (kJams Pro only)

To delete a song:

  1. Select the song.
  2. Press the delete key OR Edit → Clear.
Note: If you get a dialog asking if you are sure you want to delete the song, you can skip further dialogs by holding down the command key when you hit Yes.

Keep in mind that different things happen depending on where you are doing the deletion.

Deleting from a playlist

When you delete a song from a playlist, it is cleared from that playlist only.

Deleting from the library

Deleting a song from the library removes the song from the library AND all playlists that contain that song.
If the song was originally ripped with kJams, you will be given the option to trash the music file from the “kJams Music” folder as well. If you choose not to trash the file, it will become orphaned inside your kJams Music folder. The only way to get it back is to move the file somewhere else (outside that folder) and re-add it to the library.
If you delete a song you have imported via Add to Library, kJams will NOT trash the original files; they will stay on your hard drive in their original location.

Deleting songs in kJams Pro

When you delete a song in the KJ rotation, it sets the singer to "Not Here.” davequestion: Since the KJ Rotation shows the singers and only the current song for each, why would you delete a song from here? Or more specifically, why would that set the singer to Not Here? What if the singer just doesn't want to sing that next song at all?

When you delete a song from the Singer’s List, this will actually delete the singer, trashing original singer files and playlists. This does not affect any songs, just the singers' playlists. davequestion: hmmm, I deleted a song from a venue, and kJams did not delete the singer. I deleted a song from a singer’s tonight list, and this did not delete the singer. what are you referring to here?

Other Delete Options

Edit → Remove All Playlist Items

This is only for debugging a problem. Don't use it unless you know what you're doing. This will remove playlist references from the currently showing playlist and from the Library, but will leave the song itself in the database. The song may reappear next time you run kJams.

Edit → Remove from Library davequestion: how is this different from clearing from library?

This will remove all references of a song from all playlists. It will not delete or move files on disk, so you may end up with orphaned files if they were inside your "kJams Music" folder.

Edit → Trash original files

This does just what it says. It will remove all references of the song from all playlists, and it will move all associated files to the trash.

davequestion: I'm not clear on how the above options differ from the instructions above. For example, if you ripped a song that you are now deleting, you have the option to trash original files. So when would you ever use Edit Trash Original Files?
