The following is a tutorial for those of you who are new to karaoke or unfamiliar with iTunes. For the rest of you, just go ahead and start playing music.

The Basics

  1. Scroll down and select a song from your library.
  2. There are several ways to play the song. Go ahead and try one.
    • Click the play/pause button.
    • Double click the song title.
    • Press the space bar.
    • Control → Play
  3. Notice that a video window pops up, displaying the lyrics to the song.
  4. To pause the song, press the play/pause button or press the space bar. Press the button or space bar again to continue the song.
  5. First adjust the volume using the sliding volume bar (at the top left). This is the easiest way to control volume. But you can also use:
    Control → Volume Up
    Control → Volume Down
  6. Now adjust the tempo of the song.
    Control → Tempo Faster
    Control → Tempo Slower
    Control→ Original Tempo
  7. See what happens when you change the pitch.
    Control → Pitch Up
    Control → Pitch Down
    Control → Original Pitch
    • Check this out → The library includes a column for Pitch. You can control the pitch from here, jumping up (or down) several levels at once. Give it a try! This is the easiest way to control pitch.
  8. Now stop the song by:
    • Pressing the Stop button OR
    • Pressing the ESC key OR
    • Selecting Control → Stop.

Other Controls

  • To Rewind to the beginning of the song, click on the Back button (double left triangle) AFTER at least 4 seconds have elapsed in the song. (If you press Back during the first 4 seconds, you will skip to the previous song.) davequestion: Rewind seems to override trim
    • You can also use Control → Back
    • OR simply the left arrow ←

  • To go to the Next song, press the next button (double right triangle).
    • You can also use Control → Next
    • OR simply the right arrow key →

  • To Scrub the song, drag the diamond "playhead" across the [Screen_Shots#LCD_Panel|LCD Panel] davequestion: huh?

  • Remember Volume You can tell kJams to remember the volume for a song. Simply set the volume to where you want it, then select Control → Remember Song Volume. Next time you play that song, the volume is adjusted automatically.
    • As long as Remember Song Volume is selected (look for the checkmark), kJams will remember the last volume adjustment. If, for example, you previously set a song to 90% volume, and then you adjust it down to 85%, kJams will remember 85% the next time you play the song.
    • If you want to display your volumes, click on any column name and select Volume from the list of meta data.
    • To disable this feature, go to Control → Remember Song Volume and deselect this option.

  • Just as with Pitch and Volume, you can display the Tempo settings for each song. This is especially helpful if you are making lots of tempo changes. To display Tempo, right click on any of the column names in the library, then find Tempo on the list and click on it. Values are displayed numerically, with 1 being the normal tempo. Tempos are increased or decreased by .05.
