kJams needs some Plugins:

  • MP3 (for ripping CDs to MP3 files)
  • mpeg (for playing back MPEG1&2 files (VideoCD, etc)

don't forget to sort by User Sort Order.
Understand about the kJams Music Folder.
know about this: Talk:Version_History
If you have a Mac, the external drive can not be formatted for Windows NTFS! If it is you will have to Reformat.

if you are "add to library..."-ing an existing library, you'll want to know how to Reinterpret

can someone chime in here please? yes even you, the one who is reading this??

You'll want to set up your External Monitor

Keep your windows arranged like this!

A nice intro

okay hi!! welcome!

  1. your superdrive likely won't work (it's not a software problem, it's like asking a CD player to play a DVD, it just can't read it) pop in any CD+G disc and play it with kJams, just double click the first track. does it say "sorry not compatible"?, well then I recommend a LightScribe drive, just about any one will do, amazon has them. they're less than $100. they also let you burn mix discs (with the separate burning plugin, only if you want it)
  2. how many songs total do you have?
less than 5,000? then you'll be fine with 1 GB RAM
    5,000 to 20,000 then 2 GB
    > 20,000 go with 4GB
  3. you'll want the MP3 plugin, so when you rip your discs, the audio encode to MP3. download and install it from the downloads page.
  4. just download kJams and run. if you're a pro running shows get the Pro version (license required for public performance), else get the Lite version. Pro manages venues and singers at each venue, and song preferences per singer ("tonight" que, faves, history etc). plus a bunch more for "pros"
  5. go to preferences, and set your "Importing->Encoder" to "LAME MP3", "Best"
  6. stick in one of your discs
  7. if you get a dialog asking for the "kjpro name" click the question mark icon or click here to learn how to look up each disc, so YOU don't have to type anything
  8. AFTER you get all the meta data correct, THEN drag the icon of the CD (on the left) ON to the icon of the "Library" (or you can select only the tracks you want and drag them to the library)
  9. YAY!
